Girl power – first-ever women’s team chosen as Grassroots NW Club of the Month!

Llangefni Town Ladies have had a dream October

For the first time ever, a women’s team has been named Grassroots North Wales’ Clwb y Mis/Club of the Month.

Llangefni Town Ladies are October’s winners after a stunning set of results, some very much against the odds.

Why has a women’s team never won the award previously? No specific reason, but one thing worth noting is the lack of regular fixtures in the female game, especially at Tier 3 in North Wales.

Often being limited to one or two fixtures per month makes it hard to state a case for an overall winner. The men’s fixture list is much busier.

Llangefni Town Ladies have had such an exceptional October, they simply stood out as the month’s number 1 achievers.

They began on October 5 with a hard-earned 1-0 home win over NFA, a team expected to be a strong contenders for the North Wales Coast Women’s League title.

On October 12, Cefni thrashed Tier 2 Genero Adran League side Flint Town United 4-1 at Cae Bob Parry in the group stage of the Adran Trophy – an exceptional result over a team who were unbeaten up to that point.

Seven days later, Dan Gregg’s side went to last season’s Tier 2 runners-up Llanfair United in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup and pulled off an amazing 1-0 win.

Then last Sunday, Gregg’s 100th game as manager, Llangefni registered their first-ever league win over current back-to-back Tier 3 champions Pwllheli.

That fantastic 1-0 result puts the Ynys Môn side joint top of the league with four straight wins heading into this Sunday’s Clash of the Titans at fellow undefeateds Kinmel Bay.

Four games, four wins, seven goals scored and just one conceded – all against teams who may have been many people’s favourites to beat them. Llangefni you have been awesome!
