Surprise name will feature in Women’s Welsh Cup northern draw tonight!

Prestatyn Ladies (yellow and black) in action against Bangor City back in 2017-18

Prepare for an unexpected surprise name when the draw for the Bute Energy Women’s Welsh Cup Qualifying Round One draw takes place later tonight (from 8 pm on FAW Red Wall +).

PRESTATYN TOWN are among the 11 teams listed for the QR1 northern section of the national knockout.

It is believed Prestatyn are a newly-formed team for 2025-26, although no official announcement has been made nor has Grassroots North Wales received any confirmation.

The team did not feature in the line-up for the new Tier 3 North Wales Coast Women’s League revealed earlier this month, which included 10 members.

Since then, Amlwch Town Ladies have folded, so the addition of Prestatyn Town would be welcome as it would bring the number back to an even 10 again.

A Prestatyn Town Ladies team was last planned for the 2019-20 season, but never materialised due to lack of interest.

There was previously a Prestatyn Town side formed for 2014-15 which competed in the North Wales Women’s League until 2018-19.

A Prestatyn Girls and Ladies team formed in 2009, who became Rhyl and Prestatyn Ladies in 2014-15 when joining the Welsh Premier Women’s League. They were known as simply Rhyl Ladies from 2016-17.

TONIGHT’S BUTE ENERGY WOMEN’S WELSH CUP FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND NORTH TEAMS

2 Denbigh Town
3 Kinmel Bay
4 Llangefni Town
5 Llanidloes Town
6 Llanystumdwy
7 NFA
8 Northop Hall

An additional round has been added to this season’s competition due to a record number of teams that have entered.

Qualifying Round One will only consist of six ties (three North, three South) and will be made up of clubs in Tier 3 and below. Tier 2 clubs will enter in the newly-created Qualifying Round Two.

All teams from Tier 3 and below will be placed in the bowl for the QR1 draw, but only six balls will be drawn in each section to determine the ties. The clubs remaining in the bowl will receive a bye to QR2.
