Record-breaking bowler Paul Jenkins sets a new mark!

The great Paul Jenkins in action

Northop Hall’s prolific wicket-taker Paul Jenkins reached a major landmark in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition at the weekend.

Already the bowler with the most wickets in the league’s history, the slow left-armer became first to pass 1,300 LDCC victims in taking 6-28 in First Division leaders Hall’s win over Ainsdale on Saturday.

The 53-year-old, who rejoined Hall in 2025 after a 23-year spell at Colwyn Bay where he took 1,007 LDCC wickets, became the league’s all-time No1 when he grabbed his 1,296th dismissal versus New Brighton on May 30.

The LDCC all-time top 5 now reads

Paul Jenkins (Northop Hall 1998-2002, 2025- Colwyn Bay 2003-2024) wkts 1,304 (average 17.14)

Rob Houghton (Sefton Park, Birkenhead Park) wkts 1,295 (15.72)

Tomas Sephton (Northern, Formby, Rainhill) wkts 1156 (15.39)

Martyn Farrell (Ormskirk, Ainsdale) wkts 966 (15.51)

John Dotters (Rainford) wkts 945 (14.97)

Last season saw Jenkins named 1st XI Second Division Player of the Year after his 90 wickets helped Northop Hall to finish runners-up and clinch promotion back to the First Division.

That 90-victim haul is the highest return by a Northop Hall bowler since play-cricket records began.

This season has seen “Jenks” already scoop 26 wickets in seven First Division games for the current table-toppers.

Born in Gloucester on February 8, 1972, Jenkins made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Wales Minor Counties in 1998 against Devon.

From 1998 to 2000, he represented the team in 5 Championship matches, as well as in the MCCA Knockout Trophy and NatWest Trophy.
