For the second time this season Llanrwst United knocked Llanuwclhllyn out of a national competition.
Back in July, the Rwsters triumphed 2-0 at the Bala area side in the Welsh Cup and on Saturday they beat the same opponents – again away from home – in the FAW Trophy.
That Welsh Cup defeat three months ago had been Llanuwchllyn’s last before a 10-game unbeaten run – winning eight – was halted at the weekend by current bogey side Llanrwst.
The Rwsters were two-up at half time, some questionable home defending allowing Conor Davies and Callum Parry to find the net on 13 and 45 + 2 minutes respectively. Sam Thomas and Parry supplied the assists.
The tie was all but in the bag 11 minutes into the second period when Parry pocketed his second, Jamie Ryan Jones setting him up.
Jones was red-carded for the visitors in the 90th minute and Llanuwchllyn netted twice in added time, Meilir Williams via the penalty spot and Warren Aykroyd-Duckett adding a second, but the visitors deservedly progressed.
Corrig McGonigle failed to stretch his scoring record for Bangor 1876 this season to 12 games in a row when he missed a penalty at Ffordd Padarn on Saturday.
Otherwise, it was business as usual for Michael Johnston’s side who made it 14 matches unbeaten – 13 wins – since the start of the campaign.
The deadlock was broken on 24 minutes when James Barry found the net from a Jack Smith assist.
It remained 1-0 until the 83rd minute when Smith turned scorer, Jamie Reed supplying him with the chance.
Logan Williams completed the job with a 90th minute screamer.
Tier 4 Llanberis finished with 10 men when Mathew Edwards was red-carded with 88 minutes gone.
Harley Crossfield’s 96th minute penalty sealed Penmaenmawr a place in the last 32 at the expense of fellow Tier 3 side NFA.
William Owen-Ford put Phoenix in front after 27 minutes, Dan Evans with the assist.
NFA levelled on 73 when Lewis Evans scored, Harri Williams setting him up.
The tie was in the balance until that late spot-kick.
NFA had Evans and David Wallis red-carded after the final whistle.
