BREAKING NEWS: Nine teams sign up for new women’s league – but much remains unclear

Nine clubs have confirmed they will enter a new North Wales Women’s football league this season.

It is believed the new league will be run by the North Wales Coast FA, who have as yet made no announcements about women’s football for the 2025-26 campaign.

However, Grassroots North Wales can confirm the following clubs have registered for the new league:

Caernarfon Town
Denbigh Town
CPD Merched Henllan
CPD Pwllheli
Kinmel Bay
Llangefni Town
Llanystumdwy
NFA
Trearddur Bay

As yet, no official name has been released for the league, whose fixtures are due to start on September 7.

For the last two seasons, the North East Wales FA has run the Tier 3 women’s league for the region – comprising an East and West division, but the 2025-26 campaign will see a change in structure.

The NEWFA recently announced eight teams will compete in its newly-restructured women’s league this season. A six-team Development League would also be formed.

The eight teams in the new-look North East Wales League were to be:
Wrexham Foresters
Northop Hall
Coedpoeth
Airbus UK Broughton
Buckley Town
TNS Under-19S
Wrexham AFC Under-19s
Connah’s Quay Nomads Under-19s

Confirmed for the Development League were:
Mynydd isa
Coedpoeth Development
CPD Cei Connah
Hawarden Park
Northop Hall Development
Saltney

However, it has since been rumoured that the NEWFA plan has been scrapped and a new format may emerge.

This has not been confirmed by the NEWFA who have been approached for comment.

The running of Tier 3 women’s football in North Wales has been shambolic for some time.

The release of news from the associations is relatively non-existent and even now, with less than a month to go before the start of the new season, no concrete plans appear to be in place.
