In for a penny, in for a Cound as skipper Walker inspires Chirk’s cricketers to great win

SHROPSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE
Chirk 1st XI (20) 157-10 Cound 1st XI (6) 141-10
It was a case of in for a penny in for a Cound as a Liam Walker-inspired Chirk saw a testing task through to defeat their higher-placed visitors at Holyhead Road.
Captain Walker followed up his 86 of the previous weekend in victory over Quatt 2nd XI with an even better 88 in Saturday’s conquering of Cound.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Chirk were bowled out for a modest 157 which would have been a much lower total but for the heroics of the skipper, who struck seven fours and a six.
Next highest contributor was opener James Carter with 27.
In reply, Cound were well placed on 105-3 before a collapse sent them tumbling to 141 all out.
Hidayat Haroonkhail produced best figures of 4-25, Nitish Sharma claiming 2-22 and Walker 2-28, Chirk taking the points 20-6 to rise up to sixth place.
DIVISION SEVEN
Ludlow 3rd XI (21) 155-9 Chirk 2nd XI (7) 154-10
Unlucky Chirk seconds lost out by just a single wicket at Ludlow, home to a thoroughbred horse racing venue.
In a similar scenario to their first team, Chirk batted first and were all out for 154, extras top-scoring with 39, followed by George Collins on 38.
Ludlow scraped home on 155-9, Chirk’s fine bowling effort including 3-20 from Alfie Shaw, 2-33 from Dale Randall and Habibullah Ahmadzai’s 2-38.
