Let’s analyse the draw for the last 16 of the 2024-25 FAW Amateur Trophy

North Wales is assured of at least two teams progressing to the last eight of the FAW Amateur Trophy following tonight’s draw.

Bethesda Athletic will be determined to wipe out some painful memories when they meet Llanrwst United in the final 16.

The teams tussled last season in round three of this national competition and the Rwsters triumphed 4-1 at Parc Gwydir.

Both sides were in the Tier 3 Ardal North West last term and Llanrwst won both encounters, 3-2 at home and 5-1 at Pesda.

Parc Meurig, Bethesda, will be the venue for the latest clash of the clubs in round four of the Trophy in January.

Athletic are currently top of the Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division with a 100% record of nine straight wins, while the Rwsters lie eighth in Ardal North West.

Llanrwst have been beaten Trophy finalists twice in their history – in 1899-1900 and 1997-98.

Wrexham’s Brickfield Rangers of Tier 3 Ardal North East travelled to the Welsh capital last Saturday for a round three Trophy tie at Cardiff Draconians, which Gareth Wilson’s side won 1-0.

Bricky have landed Cardiff opposition again in the last 16, but this time will be home to Canton, currently second in Ardal South East.

Connah’s Quay Town have landed a plum tie at home to former Cymru Premier side Port Talbot Town in round four.

These days Talbot compete in the more humble surroundings of the Tier 4 South Wales Premier League Premier Division, where they occupy fifth place. Looks like a decent draw for the heroic Deesiders, second in Tier 3 Ardal North West in their first season at that level.

Lex XI will target a third successive victory over Tier 3 opponents in the Trophy when they host Ardal North East leaders Bow Street from the Aberystwyth area.

Tier 4 Lex have already seen off CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and Llanidloes Town in this season’s competition and with home advantage will surely give Bow a major test.

An all-North Wales tie to savour is the pairing of Trearddur Bay and Llanuwchllyn.

Both sides compete in Tier 3 – Trearddur in Ardal North West, where they are impressing in their debut season, while Llan are among the strongest members of Ardal North East.

Llanuwchllyn have already been making massive waves with their Welsh Cup exploits and if they can get past the Beach Boys on Anglesey in January, will surely fancy their chances of going all the way in the Trophy.

Two things are a certainty with this tie – one really good side will progress and another excellent team will say their Trophy farewells.
