Daisy Hughes is hoping to make up for lost time and get vital minutes under her belt with a return to action for Flint Town United imminent this Sunday.
The 20-year-old left winger has been unavailable since the start of 2024-25 due to a knee problem but after a steady recovery she is ready to be involved at some stage when the Silkwomen take on NFA at home in the Genero Adran North.
Since their promotion to the Tier 2 league this term, Flint have taken just one point out of a possible six, but stormed into the last 16 of the Genero Adran Trophy, three wins ensuring they finished top of their qualifying group.
Daisy has not played since featuring in the 3-1 Betty Pickering Cup semi-final defeat against Pwllheli in May.
She was named in the 15 to face Llanfair United for the first game of the current campaign, but was not risked due to injury.
Before her lay-off she was pretty much an ever-present for the Essity Stadium side, making 36 appearances and scoring 14 goals.
She has been with Flint since they formed at the start of 2022-23, playing in the same side as sisters Chloe and Rosie.
This Sunday’s opponents NFA from Rhyl hold fond memories for the left-sided specialist as she scored twice in a 3-2 win at Ffordd Derwen in May 2023. It was Flint’s best performance up to that point.
Earlier in the season, the Silkwomen had lost 6-0 at home to NFA, so it has been one win apiece between the sides since Flint’s women started playing senior football.
Sunday’s game could see a number of players come up against their former club, as Flint’s Zoe Stopford, Ruby McGilloway, Alaw Jones and Kaelyn Williams are all ex-NFA players, as well as Grace Bamber, who has only just moved to the Essity from the Rhyl side.
Another Flint star, Rosie Hughes, also turned out for NFA up to under-16 level before Flint were formed.
Sunday’s match kicks off at 2 pm at Essity Stadium.
