NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE EAST

Welshpool Town 0
Flint Town United 5 (Hastings 23, Crockett 46, D Hughes 67, Stopford 75 & 90)

Just one more point from their remaining three games and the league title is theirs – Flint Town United are right on the edge of glory.

Elliott Hale’s side made it nine straight wins today and reached 50 league goals for the season with an emphatic success at Welshpool.

It was a 15th victory in a row for the Silkwomen in all competitions going back to the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Sunday’s triumph did not come easily with Flint leading just 1-0 at half time, but the goals flowed more freely after the break.

The deadlock was broken on 23 minutes when Tegan Crockett played the ball through to Ruby Hastings, who was faced with quite an angle, but sent a beautiful shot into the far left corner.

Flint added a second a minute into the second half.

Zoe Stopford burst into the box, saw her first and second efforts saved by keeper Sarah Parkes, but Crockett was on hand to find the net to make it 15 goals for the season.

Midway through the second half, Daisy Hughes made it 3-0.

Jennifer Haynes fed a neat inside pass into the path of Hughes, whose sharpness enabled her to nip in ahead of a defender, run through on goal and finish calmly.

Daisy Hughes scored one and provided a great assist

It was a fifth goal of the season for the 20-year-old, making it Daisy, Daisy, Daisy, Daisy, Daisy.

Two goals from Stopford on 78 and 90 rounded off the scoring and boosted her total for the campaign to 19 – one more than last season’s career-best of 18.

Stopford took on a pass from Haynes and ran through to apply a great finish and make it four.

The final goal saw player of the match Taylia Chaloner and Daisy Hughes work the ball nicely down the left before the latter delivered to the back post and Stopford was there to score her second.
