Rebrand is on the way for famous Bangor football team!

CPD Penrhosgarnedd will become CPD Bangor United FC

Bangor City Stadium has announced a significant development for the upcoming football 2025/26 season, confirming that CPD Penrhosgarnedd will transition under the stadium’s management and be rebranded as the newly-formed CPD Bangor United FC.

In addition to this transition, a new team will be created to replace CPD Penrhosgarnedd, ensuring continued opportunities for local youth to participate in football.

A stadium spokesperson confirmed that Bangor 1876 FC will not be affected by these changes and will continue to play their fixtures at the stadium, with full financial support from the BCS.

Alongside this, Bangor City Stadium will provide financial backing for CPD Merched Bangor, Menai Bridge Tigers, and other grassroots teams in Bangor for the next five years.

The spokesperson described this as a “substantial investment in the future of local children and community sports.”

One of the primary reasons behind this decision, according to stadium officials, is to ensure that Penrhos youth players have a clear pathway into senior football within their own community.

“We must protect our young players from having to join senior teams outside of Bangor,” the spokesperson explained.

“It’s vital that we nurture grassroots football here and create opportunities for them locally. Our goal is to provide a seamless path into adult football for the kids of our community.”

The new Bangor United FC will also debut a fresh club emblem, which will be an amalgamation of the Bangor City Stadium logo and the original CPD Penrhosgarnedd team icon.

The club will proudly adopt the motto “Mewn Undod Mae Nerth” which translates from Welsh to “In Unity is Strength,” reflecting the community-driven spirit of the new venture.

The formation of CPD Bangor United FC is expected to generate additional revenue for the stadium during Bangor 1876 away games, which will help unlock new funding opportunities. These funds will be reinvested into improving the stadium’s facilities, benefiting all teams and their supporters, including Bangor 1876 FC.

Speaking about the initiative, Nick Pritchard, Stadium Chairman, said: “Our goal is to get as many kids playing on the stadium pitch as possible, providing a pathway to our first teams. Who knows, we might just discover our very own superstar!”

This latest development marks an exciting new chapter for football in Bangor, with positive implications for the wider community.

According to stadium officials, Bangor City Stadium’s primary mission is to create opportunities for local youth to engage in sports and stay active, not only in football but across various disciplines. They emphasised the importance of promoting mental health and well-being in the community.

“The focus is on the future,” a spokesperson added, “Helping this city move forward while respecting its past, without remaining stuck in the past.”
