Transfer news: Latest signings for Holywell Town and CPD Y Rhyl 1879, plus news of departure from Caernarfon Town

Alex Swindell (CPD Y Rhyl 1879 to Holywell Town)

Cymru Premier League bound Holywell Town have signed a top-class goalkeeper for their new adventure in the shape of Alex Swindell.

The 24-year-old stopper joined Rhyl 1879 for their Cymru North debut season this term, having been at then Cymru Premier club Newtown and also Northern Premier League Vauxhall Motors the campaign before.

Swindell made 34 appearances for 1879 in 2025-26, featuring in 27 Cymru North matches and helping Paul Moore’s side reach the Welsh Cup semi-finals.

Now comes a chance to shine again in Tier 1 with the Wellmen.

Swindell was with Mold Alexandra in 2023-24, winning the Welsh Blood Service League Cup, and the season prior saw him represent Saltney Town in the Ardal North West League.

Daniel Cockerline (Stafford Rangers to CPD Y Rhyl 1879)

Striker Dan Cockerline has agreed to join CPD Y Rhyl 1879 pending league and international clearance.

The front man signs from Northern Premier League club Stafford Rangers, with Nantwich Town, Warrington Rylands and Newcastle Town among his former clubs.

It appears Cockerline’s 2025-26 season ended early due to a shoulder injury which will need an operation.

No doubt Rhyl will keep its fans up to date with progress on that.

Theo Farquharson (to CPR Y Rhyl 1879)

Manchester United had Sparky, Wrexham AFC has Parky, now CPD Y Rhyl 1879 have signed Farqie!

Much-travelled centre back Theo Farquharson, known popularly as Farqie, is a new addition to the Lilywhites squad announced today.

As a schoolboy, Farqie spent four years on Manchester United’s books before moving across the city to Manchester City.

A three-year spell at Burnley ended with a move to Stockport County and Oldham Athletic before a series of non-league senior teams, including FC United of Manchester, Warrington Town in the Vanarama National League, a stint with Portuguese side SC Espinho and later Workington AFC.

A short stay with Kerry in Ireland was quickly followed by engagements at Trafford and Abbey Hey. All those clubs and still just 23-years-old!

Once he meets the Rhyl fans, Farqie is sure to want to stay on board.

Brad Young (Caernarfon Town to The New Saints – undisclosed fee)

Champions The New Saints have continued their annual summer raid on the best talent from rival Cymru Premier clubs by re-signing striker Brad Young from Caernarfon Town.

Young, 23, joined Caernarfon in January 2026 and was part of the Canaries squad which won the Welsh Cup in April.

He began his senior career at Aston Villa and made one FA Cup appearance before spells on loan at Carlisle United and Ayr United.

Solihull-born Young moved to TNS in July 2023, making 37 appearances and scoring 27 goals across all competitions before transferring to Al-Orabah in Saudi Arabia.

A stint with Baniyas in the United Arab Emirates followed before that switch to Caernarfon.

In his previous stay at TNS, he won the domestic treble, appeared in several European matches and won the Cymru Premier Golden Boot in 2023-24.

Young lands at Park Hall on the back of the champions snapping up ace goalscoring midfielder Rhys Hughes from Connah’s Quay Nomads yesterday.
