Prestatyn Town confirm the name of their latest first-team manager

Chris Morrell is the new manager of Prestatyn Town

Prestatyn Town have confirmed tonight Chris Morrell is their new first team manager.

Morrell, 51, has a long association with the club and had been leading the side in a coaching and caretaker capacity since August 23 after Matty Roberts stepped down.

A former Town player and captain, Morrell’s first three games at the helm ended in defeat, but the Seasiders came good on Saturday with a 6-2 victory over Llay Welfare in the Cymru North.

Prestatyn Town chairman James Benbow made it clear Morrell was his first choice candidate from the get go.

“It’s great to have Chris on board in what is a new chapter for the club,” said Benbow.

“Despite not advertising, we were inundated with applicants from all levels of the Welsh, English and even Irish pyramid, but we think Chris is the perfect fit for us.

“He has done a great job already with players currently at the club and managed to get a few new targets over the line before the transfer window closed.

“His passion and enthusiasm to take over at Prestatyn Town shone through and could easily be seen during Town’s recent 6-2 win. His coaching ability is second to none as well as his tactical insight and opponent analysis.

“It’s been a tough few weeks since the departure of our ex-manager who was with us for the second half of last season, but all we can do now is look forward and give Chris our backing from the stands.”

Morrell is a highly experienced coach and former Prestatyn trophy-winning player who has been involved within the club’s management structure in the past.

Perhaps his finest achievement was leading the North Wales Coast FA sides at senior and under-18 level.

He was in charge of the Coast squad which won their first-ever points in the UEFA Regions Cup and gave many fine youngsters a chance to shine for the under-18s.

Morrell has also managed St Asaph City and Conwy Borough, as well as working with Meliden, Llandudno and Llandudno Junction. He is a past head of men’s football at Salford University.
