Five departures from CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 FC – but exciting future plans revealed

Five player departures have been announced by CPD Dinas Bangor City 1876 FC.

Mason Blackwell-Jones, Jake Ellison, Joe Sullivan, Dan Cox and Tom Mahoney have all moved on from the squad which represented the club in 2024-25.

Bangor were relegated from the Tier 2 Cymru North after a final-day defeat at Ruthin Town and must now rebuild in the third-tier Ardal North West in the coming season.

Manager Michael Johnston will continue to lead the side.

Today, the club announced some exciting developments, both on and off the pitch.

The stadium is being prepared for the new season, with the pitch being re-laid, and the recently-approved grant being used to replace the floodlights and the dugouts.

“Without doubt, this will easily be the best stadium in the Welsh football pyramid,” said a club statement.

“Due to the pitch needing time to be prepared, pre-season friendlies scheduled for the stadium will now be played at Treborth.

“In terms of the playing side, the registration window has yet to open. Announcing any new arrivals will therefore be premature, but Johno’s focus has been on securing the core of last season’s squad, supplemented with experienced players who will ensure that we have greater resilience on the pitch.

“Once the registration window is open, we will be announcing the new arrivals. Additionally, we will not be subject to transfer widows this season, so will have the opportunity to tweak the squad in-season.”

One of the most exciting and significant developments at Bangor will be the introduction of the development team.

Working in close partnership with Penrhosgarnedd, this team will be made up of the best local talent, with some first team squad players adding their experience. Players from the development team will also be training with the first team, and hopefully making their way into the first team squad.

“We now have the pathway in place for players to progress from junior football to the first team within the same club structure,” added the club.

“The new season is scheduled to kick-off in mid-July. There is lots to do between now and then, but with our blend of youth and experience, we will be ready for the start of the season as we look to go all-out for promotion.”
