The tie of the first round was definitely not expected to produce such a one-sided scoreline, especially as a 10-man Porthmadog had been so impressive in winning at Rhyl 1879 in the Ardal North League Cup seven days earlier.
But Saturday’s FAW Amateur Trophy clash at Y Traeth was all about Hotspur, and especially their young striker Dylan Summers-Jones, who bagged his first hal-trick for the club.
With both sides flying high in Ardal North West and Port unbeaten in the league, a close battle was predicted, yet the hosts were unable to get past a strong Holyhead defence, while the visitors took their opportunities clinically.
Hotspur went ahead in the 26th minute, as Jacob Godsman-Pilling burst down the wing and sent over a brilliant cross for Summers-Jones to head home.
On the half hour, Port keeper Oliver Farebrother was adjudged to have taken out Godsman-Pilling and a penalty was awarded. Tomi Llywelyn sent a yellow-carded Farebrother the wrong way from the spot.
Port almost pulled one back before the break, but John Littlemore’s strike was well saved by Guto Hughes.
Half-time: Porthmadog 0 Holyhead Hotspur 2
Port started the second half strongly, but were then caught on the break, Summers-Jones pouncing to make it 3-0 on 50 minutes.
Summers-Jones made it a treble on 61, curling a beauty into the top corner for. It was his 40th Hotspur goal in 101 total appearances, but 17th in his last 21 matches.
In the 80th minute, Farebrother was adjudged to have fouled in the box with a last-ditch challenge for a second time. He was shown a second yellow and had to depart the field.
Central defender Iddon Price stepped up to take the keeper’s jersey and saved Llywelyn’s penalty, but the ball ran loose for Godsman-Pilling to tap in Holyhead’s fifth.
Great win for tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One joint leaders CPD Cefni over Llanfairfechan from the fourth-tier.
Dylan Griffith was the home team hero with a first-half hat-trick, finding the net on seven, 19 and 40 minutes.
However, Llanfairfechan were in a goal-getting mood too, scoring three times themselves in the opening half through Ellis Jones, Elliot Croston and Jamie Smith.
Veteran Andy Williams nudged Cefni back in front on 57 and Lee Lewis made it 5-3 on 76, but Town ensured a nervy ending after Dylan Edwards pulled one back.
Nonetheless, the lads from Anglesey held on for a memorable win and advance to round two.
That promising young whippersnapper Les Davies maintained his remarkable scoring record by making it 11 goals in his last 6 games with a double in Trearddur Bay’s island derby success over fellow tier 4 outfit Gwalchmai.

First half strikes from Tom Smith (penalty) and Callum Mannion were enough to secure Albion’s passage to the next stage.
Dean Davies’ 89th minute winner sealed a magnificent result for the mighty Bow away to the North Wales Coast East Premier Division leaders.
In a thrilling tie, goals from Joe Carey on 19 minutes and Loui O’Carroll after 58 put underdogs Bow two-up, but Leon Gierke replied after 85 and 87 to level the match and seemingly set uo a penalty shoot out.
However, Davies delivered the late and decisive blow with a long range decider for the valiant visitors.
From the get-go Bow were the better side and could have been 2 or 3-0 up within the first 15 minutes, but chances were not taken.
In the 18th minute, Bow keeper Cain Folly made a brilliant save, then pumped a long clearance over the Llansannan defence which found Carey, who spun his defender and lobbed into the net for the opener.
The visitors maintained their single-goal lead up to half time.
After the break, Bow went two ahead when Carey’s through ball was misjudged by the home keeper and O’Carroll was able to find the empty net.
To their credit, Llansannan never gave up and two great goals from Gierke on 85 and 87 minutes levelled the tie.

After the disappointment of a League Cup exit on penalties to Porthmadog seven days earlier, Rhyl bounced back to winning ways in Trophy with a hard-fought success over spirited tier 4 visitors Coedpoeth.
The most notable Lilywhites line-up change was new goalkeeper Adam Reid who had just signed from Burscough and brings competition and experience to the squad.
Rhyl dominated from the off, but within 2 minutes they had to make an immediate substitution as Casey Faulkner was helped off the pitch following an innocuous challenge leaving the full back unable to walk. He was replaced by Oli Staveley.
While the hosts were in control, it was the visitors who had the best chance early on, forcing Reid into a smart save.
On 24 minutes, Gareth Thomas’ side took the lead when the impressive Tom Kemp found the net with a smart finish following a deft through ball from Jordan Worthington.
Coedpoeth responded with some fantastic football and got their deserved equaliser when Rhyl’s defensive errors were punished by veteran striker, the 46-year-old former Welsh Premier player Kevin Breeze.
Five minutes into the second half, Rhyl’s Jonny Bravo burst in to the box, sprinting past the defence to square the ball superbly for striking partner Callum Parry to find the top left hand corner for 2-1.
MoTM Worthington made it three from the edge of the box on 63 minutes following a cross from James Stevens.
The plucky away team continued to probe and replied with an Adam Lloyd goal to make it 3-2 on 67 minutes.
