CRICKET: Liverpool Competition – Colwyn Bay back on promotion trail, double triumph for Northop Hall

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – REPORTS SEPTEMBER 7

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay (20) 55-4 Spring View (2) 51-10

Bay returned to winning ways and edged ever-closer to promotion back to the Premier with a six-wicket victory over Spring View at Penrhyn Avenue.

Calling the coin correctly and deciding to field first, the North Wales side blasted out their opponents for just 51 in 30.4 overs.

Jack Parry claimed 4-37 off 15, Dulanjala Mendis reached 75 league wickets for the season with 3-1 off four and Patrick Glover scooped 2-8 from 11.

Left-arm spinner Paul Jenkins, who snapped up his 1,000th Liverpool Competition wicket for the Bay the previous weekend, moved on to 1,001 with 1-2.

Bay got home on 55-4 from 18.5, Dan Russell 32 not out, to seal a 20-2 points triumph.

With two rounds of matches remaining, Bootle are on 337 points, Bay 314 and Highfield 292.

One win from their final two games should seal promotion for George Johansen’s side and the return of Premier League cricket to Rhos-on-Sea after just a season away.

They visit next-to-bottom St Helens Town on September 14 and host fourth-place Orrell Red Triangle seven days later.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall (25) 110-3 Parkfield Liscard (2) 107-10

Liam Evans-Ford took 5-37 and Nathan Roett 4-45 as Northop Hall bowled out Parkfield cheaply as Smithy Lane.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, the Liverpool side were rolled over for just 107 in 31 overs, Evans-Ford rising to 32 league wickets in 2024, while Roett has 59.

In reply, the Hall coasted to 110-3 from 29.1, Matthew Jones leading the charge with an unbeaten 58.

Prestatyn (5) 72-10 Caldy (22) 137-10

Bottom side Prestatyn look highly likely to finish there after slumping to a 65-run defeat at Beach Close.

Visitors Caldy were dismissed for a modest 137, Benjamin Hughes an impressive 3-16 off 14, Navneet Kaimal 3-51 and Kieron Tidswell 2-19.

Prestatyn were then sent packing for a paltry 72, Kaimal best with 20, Mohammad Rafi 4-15 and Umega Chaturanga 4-22.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

New Brighton 2nd XI (25) 175-5 dec Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (5) 142-10

Sean Dednam’s 83 not out for the hosts was key in this loss for Bay seconds.

New Brighton seconds posted 175-5 declared off 45, wicket-keeper Dednam dominating the innings, Shay Williams bagging 2-28 for the visitors.

Bay were bowled out for 142, Tom Clarke standing out with 51.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Parkfield Liscard 2nd XI (2) 95-10 Northop Hall 2nd XI (25) 96-2

Ben Arden snared 5-18, Joseph Parry 3-19 and Sion Hellen 2-17 as Northop Hall seconds bowled out hosts Parkfield for just 95.

In response, Hall breezed to 96-2 off 21.5, Arden 36 not out and Gareth Fox 21 no, to secure a 25-2 points decision.

Hall are third in the table with still an outside chance of promotion.
