CRICKET: Liverpool Comp – Prestatyn and Hall tie, Jenkins nears 1000 league wickets for Bay

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITIONS REPORTS – AUGUST 24, 2024
1ST XI FIRST DIVISION
Colwyn Bay (20) 112-4 Liverpool (3) 109-10
Spin-king Paul Jenkins moved one away from 1,000 league wickets for Colwyn Bay as he took a season’s best 5-35 in Saturday’s comfortable win over visitors Liverpool.
Slow left-arm bowler Jenkins now has 999 Liverpool Competition victims for the Bay and 1,149 in total having taken 154 for Northop Hall earlier in his career.
The 52-year-old Jenks reached the 1,000 LDCC wickets mark in July 2021, a year in which he bagged 53 in all and followed that up with a magnificent 70 in 2022.
Saturday’s match at Penrhyn Avenue saw Bay win the toss and put the visitors into bat, bowling them out for just 109 in 44.4 overs.

Jenkins’ 5-35 came off 13 overs, while Dulanjala Mendis pocketed 3-38 to make it 71 league wickets this season.
Bay reached 112-4 off 31.1 in reply to seal a 20-3 points success which keeps them second in the table, a spot which would earn them promotion if they stay there. The third-place team trail the Bay by 28 points with four rounds of games remaining.
Dan Russell (23), Will Evans (21) and Will Higginson (20 not out) helped guide the hosts to the winning post.
