LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – SATURDAY, AUGUST 10

1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

Colwyn Bay (20) 118-4 Sefton Park (3) 116-10

Second-place Bay established a 29-point gap to third spot with a six-wicket win over Liverpool side Sefton Park.

Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Dulanjala Mendis was back to his best, claiming him eighth five-wicket haul in the league this year with figures of 6-56 off 26 overs as the visitors were dismissed for 116 after being put into bat.

Mendis is now on 61 league wickets at an average of 9.39 apiece and economy rate of 2.08.

Fellow master spinner Paul Jenkins scooped 4-27 off 13.2.

Bay responded with a winning 118-4 off 32.5, skipper George Johansen 37 and Will Higginson 32 not out.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Hall were just one wicket away from a win and hosts Alder only six runs shy of victory in a thrilling game on Saturday.

Put into bat, the North Wales visitors set 162-3 off 47, then Alder’s innings ended on 157-9 – match drawn.

Matty Jones made a half-century for the away side, sharing a partnership of 80 with Mike Williamson.

Openers Andrew Watkin and James Hurlin put on 48.

In reply, Alder were up against it before 50 from Rana Saqlain, batting at eight, gave the hosts a chance.

Hurlin took six wickets and Nathan Roett three as the sides took it to the final over.

In that last over, two catches were dropped off Roett bowling – so close.

Sutton St Helens (24) 193-7 dec Prestatyn (4) 117-10

Bottom side Prestatyn were no match for second-place Sutton.

The hosts notched 193-7 declared off 45, Jack York 92, Adam Tidswell scooping 4-49 for the visitors.

Prestatyn were then dismissed for just 117, David Harris 34, Ben Scott 5-27.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Wigan 2nd XI (25) 147-5 Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (5) 143-10

Skipper Tom Roberts made a fine 49, but it was not enough to save the Bay from defeat at Bull Hey.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the visitors were dismissed for 143, Shay Williams adding 28 and Harry Spillane 26, then Wigan got home on 147-5, Ryan Holtby 2-31 and Williams 2-42.

2ND XI SECOND DIVISION

Northop Hall 2nd XI (25) 230-3 Fleetwood Hesketh (1) 64-10

Opener Alex Smith notched up the fourth senior league century of his career, making 110 out of a first wicket stand of 198 with Jack Allen (74).

The pair helped the hosts amass a huge 230-3 off just 33 overs and Hall then rolled over Fleetwood for just 64, Matthew Edwards snaring 5-20 and Ben Hicks 2-4.

Prestatyn 2nd XI (4) 120-10 Alder 2nd XI (25) 121-5

Ben Williams top-scored with 32 as Prestatyn were bowled out for 120 after electing to bat, Ross Kirkpatrick a scintillating 7-40 off 20 for the visitors.

Alder made it to 121-5 for a five-wickets, 25-4 points verdict, Williams 3-40, Jaden Ablett 2-26 off 10.
