Dulanjala Mendis produced his third seven-wicket haul of the season to guide Colwyn Bay to a thrilling seven-run win over Highfield at Penrhyn Avenue.
Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Mendis passed the 50 league-wickets mark for the campaign, his fifth five-for of 2024 lifting him to 54 victims in Division One at just 8.52 apiece.
Saturday’s win strengthened the Bay’s hold on second-place.
Put into bat, the hosts were bowled out for 185 in 51.5 overs, Will Evans (58), Sion Morris (46) and opener Dan Russell (44) the only three double-figure contributors.
Bay were 148-4 at one stage, but lost their last six batsmen for the addition of just 37 runs.
For the visitors, Madduma Lakmal picked up 6-46 and Mohit Jangra 3-55.
In reply, Highfield slumped to 27-4 as Mendis wreaked early havoc.
However, Jamie Derbyshire (88) and Jangra (41) turned the tables and it needed late wickets from Mendis and Jack Parry to get the travellers all out for 178.
Parry’s bowling of eighth man down Derbyshire proved particularly crucial.
Mendis finished up with 7-53 off 22 overs, Parry pocketing 2-51, while Jamie Moorhouse had the dangerous Jangra caught behind.
Points went 23-8 in Bay’s favour.
Liam Evans-Ford snared 5-25 and Nathan Roett 4-31 as Northop Hall skittled out hosts Wavertree for just 65 after putting them into bat.
However, the North Wales side by no means had it easy in response and were glad to get home on 69-6 off 16 overs, Roett top-scoring with 17, while Ben Arden made a vital 14 not out.
Prestatyn are rock bottom of Division Two after a heavy loss at Ainsdale.
The hosts were inserted by the opposition and chalked up 191-4 declared off 51, extras their highest scorer with 45, while Jack Cheetham grabbed 2-59 for the visitors.
Prestatyn were then bowled out for just 89, with the last-wicket pair putting on 39, Cheetham 31 not out, Rhys Jones 21, Dilanka Auwardt 6-29 for the winners.
Opener Joshua Brown hit a priceless 32 as Bay seconds scraped home by three wickets chasing just 59 to win.
Colwyn fielded first and rolled over the hosts for just 58 in 17.1 overs, James Jones 4-38, Tom Clarke 3-2 and Ryan Holtby 2-18.
Brown hit seven fours in Bay’s response. No-one else made double figures, but Will Spillane did strike a crucial 8 not out (two fours) down the order to see the visitors home.
Hall were all back in the pavilion for just 70, Thomas Doggett 28, and visitors Spring View got home on 74-7, Sion Hellen 4-6 and Matteo Evans-Ford 2-30.
A welcome win for Prestatyn seconds over bottom side Whitefield at Beach Close.
Matthew Edwards scored 62 and Ben Williams 30 as the hosts were bowled out for 155 after winning the toss and electing to bat.
The visitors could only muster 102 before they were all out, Ben Williams 3-24, Jaden Ablett 3-25 and Steven Edwards 2-9 for the North Wales hosts.
