LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION REPORTS – MAY 25

1ST XI DIVISION ONE

Liverpool (5) 83-10 Colwyn Bay (21) 117-10

Sri Lankan wonder Dulanjala Mendis blasted Colwyn Bay to victory with a seven-wicket haul at Liverpool.

The left-arm spinner took 7-42 as the hosts were dismissed for just 83 in reply to Bay’s 117 all out.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, Jack Parry (29), Will Higginson (27) and Luke Russell (23) the main contributors to the modest away total.

Daniel Clubbe claimed 4-30 and Ross Allen 3-33 for the home side, who must have been fairly satisfied with the job done in the field.

However, they were in for a rude awakening when Mendis wreaked havoc, his 7-42 coming off 22.4 overs, while veteran Paul Jenkins returned an excellent 2-16 from 15.

Points: 21-5 Colwyn Bay.

1ST XI DIVISION TWO

Northop Hall (5) Prestatyn (5)

The weather sadly won as this much-awaited North Wales derby was cancelled due to rain.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (20) 175-6 dec Rainford 2nd XI (5) 109-10

Tom Roberts produced a captain’s half-century to help his side record a convincing triumph at Penrhyn Avenue.

Calling the coin correctly and opting for first knock, the Bay set a decent 175-6 declared off 48 overs, Roberts posting 56 and Dan Russell 47. Russell put on 66 for the first wicket with Josh Brown (21), Thomas Omelia adding 26.

Jack Hurst scooped 5-60 for the visitors, who were then dismissed for 109, Will Spillane 3-4, Tom Clarke 3-31 and Shay Williams 2-21.

Bay won by 66 runs and 20-5 on points.

2ND XI DIVISION TWO

Prestatyn 2nd XI (4) 115-10 Hightown St Mary’s 2nd XI (20) 119-4

Home side Prestatyn seconds failed to score enough runs to really challenge their visitors to Beach Close.

Put into bat, the North Wales hosts were all out for 115, Ashley Jones 31 and Jason Edwards 28, Dylan Jones 5-34 for Hightown.

The travellers responded with 119-4 Ben Williams 2-19.

Sutton St Helens 2nd XI (5) 94-10 Northop Hall 2nd XI (20) 95-8

Sion Hellen grabbed 6-31 and Ben Arden 3-7 as Northop Hall seconds skittled out their opponents for just 94.

The going got tough for the North Walians in reply and they were floundering on 77-8 before a defiant ninth-wicket stand between skipper David Mellor (10 not out) and Matthew Edwards (8 no) saw the visitors over the line without further loss.

Earlier, openers Tom Hellen (24) and Matteo Evans-Ford (21) had given the Hall a decent start.

The Flintshire outfit won by two wickets and collected the points 20-5.
