Five-star Nomads off to a flyer

Double Adran North champions Nomads gave Tier 2 newcomers Foresters a taste of how tough life can be at a higher level with a thumping Trophy triumph at Stansty Park on Sunday.

New manager Andy Griffiths’ side made a great start to the game,

Phoebe Ellis made it 1-0 pretty much straight from kick off, scoring from 35 yards out – a fine strike into the right hand corner.

Foresters grew into the game and began matching the Quay midfield.

From a 14th minute breakaway, new signing Maizie Johnson scored from the edge of the box with a great finish top right.

At half time the Nomads made a change in the midfield, bringing on Melanie Barlow who sured up the centre, allowing the visitors to dictate the majority of possession.

Just before the hour, Aimee Redfern headed in a Barlow free kick but was controversially adjudged offside.

In the 65th minute, Nomads felt it was time to make more changes and introduced 17-year-old Non Williams on the left hand side and Libby Mackenzie at left back, moving Seren Cashen to the midfield and Hannah Slack up front.

The impact was almost instant with Slack scoring from the edge of the box in the 67th minute.

At this point Nomads began to dominate with Non Williams scoring a minute later from a Cashen assist.

The visitors then brought on Lexi Walsh and Hallie Billingsley to add fresh legs in the 77th minute.

In the 83rd, Anna Marsh won the ball 20 yards out and blasted into the top corner for 4-1.

Finally, in the 91st minute teen sub Williams finished a brilliant performance with a bullet header from a corner.
