Daniel Clubbe claimed 4-30 and Ross Allen 3-33 for the home side, who must have been fairly satisfied with the job done in the field.
However, they were in for a rude awakening when Mendis wreaked havoc, his 7-42 coming off 22.4 overs, while veteran Paul Jenkins returned an excellent 2-16 from 15.
Points: 21-5 Colwyn Bay.
