CRICKET: Shropshire League – a massive win for Chirk seconds, but firsts well beaten at home

DIVISION ONE

Chirk 1st XI (2) 160-10 Bomere Heath 1st XI (20) 165-2

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Chirk made nowhere near enough runs to trouble high-flyers Bomere Heath.

Oliver Gough top-scored with 40, openers Wynn Jones and Gareth Partridge made 26 apiece and Nick Flack added 22 as the hosts were bowled out for 160 off 39.5 overs, Matt Jones Jnr taking 4-18 for the visitors.

Ryan Lockley then slammed 89 not out from 72 balls and Toby Jones posted 48 not out off 33 as Bomere reached 165-2 from just 23.3.

Points: 20-2 to the visitors.

DIVISION SEVEN

Chelmarsh 1st XI (4) 31-10 Chirk 2nd XI (24) 215-8

Ruthless Chirk seconds dished out an almighty thrashing at Chelmarsh to boost their lead at the top to 12 points.

Put into bat, the visitors amassed 215-8 off 40 overs, David Lunt making 48, Nigel Davies 46, Hidayat Haroonkhail 38 and Gary Bailey 32.

Chelmarsh, a village four miles south of Bridgnorth, were then blown away for just 31, Rhys Evans 3-0, Dale Randall 3-17 and Harry Lunt 2-11.

Points: 24-4 to Chirk seconds

Chirk are home to nearest challengers Acton Reynald 1st XI next weekend in what should be a cracker.
