North Wales clubs opt not to appeal against FAW Tier 1 licence refusal
Neither Holywell Town or Bangor 1876 have appealed against the FAW’s decision to refuse them top-tier licences.
This means that Holywell cannot be promoted to the JD Cymru Premier League, where a Tier 1 qualification is mandatory to compete.
The Wellmen have a big chance of finishing Tier 2 Cymru North champions, but Flint Town United, who are guaranteed a top-two spot and have the required licence, will be promoted instead.
It is believe Holywell’s decision not to appeal is down to the cost of bringing their Halkyn Road ground up to the required standard to meet Tier 1 criteria.
Despite a promising debut season in the Cymru North, Bangor 1876 will not occupy a promotion position.
The FAW released the following statement today:
“The appeal deadline has passed for the UEFA and FAW Tier 1 applications, following the First Instance Body decisions earlier this month.
“At the First Instance Body stage, Aberystwyth Town were refused a UEFA Licence for the 2024/25 season, with Ammanford, Bangor 1876, Holywell Town and Pontypridd United being refused a Tier 1 Licence for the 2024/25 season.
“Only Pontypridd United have submitted an appeal against the decision to refuse a Tier 1 Licence.
The Appeals Body will now convene to hear the appeal from Pontypridd United on Thursday (18 April).“
