Double joy for Holyhead Hotspur in latest Ardal Northern awards

Holyhead Hotspur’s Darren Garmey is Ardal North West Manager of the Month for February and March

Holyhead Hotspur have achieved a magnificent double in their league’s monthly awards.

Darren Garmey has been named Lock Stock Ardal North West Manager of the Month (s), while striker Dylan Summers-Jones is Player of the Month (s) for February and March.

During those months, Hotspur went unbeaten in nine games across all competitions.

In the league, they beat Saltney Town (8-0), leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 (1-0), CPD Llannefydd (2-1) and Brickfield Rangers (6-1), also drawing with Pwllheli, Llanrwst United, Hawarden Rangers and Llangefni Town.

Meanwhile, the Holy Islanders also won 2-1 at Rhos Aelwyd in the Ardal North League Cup to reach the semi-finals, where they will host Bow Street on a rescheduled date of Saturday, May 18.

Garmey was appointed Hotspur manager in May 2018, replacing Campbell Harrison, to whom he had been previously assistant.

In 2019-20, Garmey led Holyhead to the Welsh Alliance League Division One title, which was followed by two seasons in the tier 2 Cymru North before dropping into tier 3 Ardal North West this term.

Hotspur are currently fourth in the table and on a magnificent run of 13 matches unbeaten.

Summers-Jones, 21, has netted in seven successive games for Hotspur and hit five in five during March.

He joined the club from Llangefni Town in September 2021, having previously been a major success for Bangor 1876, scoring 45 goals in his 2019-20 debut season.

Summers-Jones played in just seven matches for Llangefni at the start of 2021-22 before moving to Hotspur, where he has scored 31 times in 87 appearances (many as a substitute early on) and this season he has bagged 20 goals in 33 outings.

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Llanuwchllyn manager Sion Tudor

Manager of the Month (s) is Sion Tudor of Llanuwchllyn, while Rhos Aelwyd’s Aled Parry has been named Best Player for February and March.

Llanuwchllyn began an eight-match winning run in February which lasted throughout March.

Taking April into account, that streak has extended to 10 straight victories.

Llan are second in the table and could overtake leaders Penrhyncoch if they won their five games in hand.

Tudor is in his second spell as manager of the Tier 3 club, having rejoined initially as assistant to Riki Rowlands in December 2020.

Rhos captain Parry notched six goals in nine games during February and March, helping his side rise up the Ardal North East table to relative safety after a poor run of form.
