Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Ellis is making a huge impact at one of North Wales’ top clubs

The photo says it all….Phoebe Ellis has been a roaring success so far. Picture: CONNAH’S QUAY NOMADS FC

With seven goals scored in her last three games, 16-year-old Phoebe Ellis of Connah’s Quay Nomads is making massive waves in senior football.

The teenager first made her mark last season when scoring in Nomads’ victory over Airbus in the NEWFA Challenge Cup Final.

Now she is playing a major role in the Quay’s stunning start to the 2023-24 campaign in which they are going full tilt for the Tier 2 Genero Adran North title.

Phoebe certainly has a great role model to look up to as her brother is Kieran (Kie) Ellis, a prolific scorer for CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and Kinmel Bay in recent seasons.

Here, Phoebe talks about the early days of her senior football career with Grassroots North Wales.

When did you start playing football and which teams did you play for before joining Connah’s Quay Nomads?

Taking on the boys

I was only six when I started playing football. My first team was Kinmel Bay boys and then, after that was Towyn Rangers boys, following the footsteps of my brother. I played for a few other teams as well before joining Connah’s Quay Nomads.

After standing out for Nomads under-19’s last season, you played in the NEWFA Women’s Challenge Cup Final and scored. What are your memories of that day?

It was great for the team to win the cup again. I remember coming on as a sub and chipping the keeper, giving us a goal towards our victory,

How have you approached this season? Determined to make your mark in the first team?

Playing for under-19’s last year gave me a massive boost in confidence to get into the women’s first team.

You must be delighted with the way you have started the season. What have been the highlights so far?

I am enjoying playing at Connah’s Quay. I feel such a part of the team and scoring in every game I’ve played has meant I’ve had loads of amazing feedback.

So far this season in my last 3 games against TNS, Llandudno and NFA I have scored 7 goals which was only possible due to great team work.

You come from a footballing family. Brother Kieran plays for Rhyl 1879 and is a prolific goalscorer. How much of an inspiration is he to you?

Phoebe has always had a close relationship with her brother Kie

My brother is a massive Inspiration to me. I remember going to watch him every weekend and wanting to be like him.

What are your ambitions for the future?

Keep enjoying my football and playing with amazing players. I also hope to eventually become a professional footballer
