With seven goals scored in her last three games, 16-year-old Phoebe Ellis of Connah’s Quay Nomads is making massive waves in senior football.
The teenager first made her mark last season when scoring in Nomads’ victory over Airbus in the NEWFA Challenge Cup Final.
Now she is playing a major role in the Quay’s stunning start to the 2023-24 campaign in which they are going full tilt for the Tier 2 Genero Adran North title.
Phoebe certainly has a great role model to look up to as her brother is Kieran (Kie) Ellis, a prolific scorer for CPD Y Rhyl 1879 and Kinmel Bay in recent seasons.
Here, Phoebe talks about the early days of her senior football career with Grassroots North Wales.
I was only six when I started playing football. My first team was Kinmel Bay boys and then, after that was Towyn Rangers boys, following the footsteps of my brother. I played for a few other teams as well before joining Connah’s Quay Nomads.
It was great for the team to win the cup again. I remember coming on as a sub and chipping the keeper, giving us a goal towards our victory,
Playing for under-19’s last year gave me a massive boost in confidence to get into the women’s first team.
I am enjoying playing at Connah’s Quay. I feel such a part of the team and scoring in every game I’ve played has meant I’ve had loads of amazing feedback.
So far this season in my last 3 games against TNS, Llandudno and NFA I have scored 7 goals which was only possible due to great team work.
My brother is a massive Inspiration to me. I remember going to watch him every weekend and wanting to be like him.
Keep enjoying my football and playing with amazing players. I also hope to eventually become a professional footballer
