Welsh Cup – Wrexham scrape past Llandudno, no joy for Rhyl 1879 or Felinheli; NEWFA Cup – five-minute hat-trick for Nomads 16-year-old

BUTE ENERGY WELSH CUP LAST 16

Wrexham 1 Llandudno 0

Adran Premier high-flyers Wrexham needed a 95th minute winner to scrape past lower-league opponents Llandudno in a hard-fought Welsh Cup tie at The Rock.

The hosts had the better first-half chances, Ava Suckley seeing an effort cleared off the line before Meg Robinson produced a wonder save from a Tonicha Dickens rocket.

Carra Jones missed a golden chance for Wrexham after receiving a poor back-pass before Tudno top-scorer Stevie Donougher blasted over the bar.

The second half was a different story as Llandudno looked every bit the equal of their opponents.

Having struggled to make the breakthrough, Wrexham brought on top-scorer Rosie Hughes, a surprise omission from the starting line-up, for Suckley on 56 minutes to see if she could sink her old club.

It was Llandudno who looked the more dangerous, however, Ffion Owen denied by a great Del Morgan stop, Stacey Tradewell going close from a free kick and Maddie Williams unable to convert a Donougher cross.

In added time, a Lili Jones strike brought the best out of Robinson and it seemed penalties were looming.

However, a Dickens corner in the 95th minute caused a scramble in the box and Katie Sharp bundled the ball home to leave Wrexham joyous but mightily relieved to be into the quarter-finals.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 0 Aberystwyth Town 8

Not a day to remember for Rhyl 1879 as Adran Premier visitors Aberystwyth proved far too strong at Belle Vue.

Goals from Bethan Roberts, Amy Jenkins, Gwenllian Jones (2), Lleucu Mathias (2), Libby Issac and Niamh Duggan saw the visitors comfortably through to the last eight.

The New Saints 4 CPDM Y Felinheli 0

The end of Felinheli’s Welsh Cup run was confirmed after Danielle Staley, Emily Ridge, Georgia Griffiths and Helen Evans scored the goals that mattered for Ardal Premier favourites TNS.

All the goals came in the first half, so Felin kept a clean sheet in the second 45 – well done to them.

NEWFA CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER-FINAL

NFA 1 Connah’s Quay Nomads 5

Substitute Phoebe Ellis netted a five-minute hat-trick as Nomads coasted into the semi-finals of a cup they have won for the last two seasons.

The 16-year-old Ellis struck on 50, 53 and 55 minutes after strong favourites Quay led just 1-0 at half time through a Kylie Jones goal.

Ellis then wreaked havoc at the start of the second half with her rapid treble.

And Ellis added a fourth in the 71st minute to make it seven goals in three games.

Jade Scott pulled one back for NFA on 67.
