Colwyn Bay have been relegated to Division One after a tremendous final-day effort to save themselves ended in heartbreak.
George Johansen’s side needed to beat fellow strugglers New Brighton at Penrhyn Avenue to maximise their hopes of staying up, however the Wirral visitors chased down a big target to achieve victory and send the hosts down.
Bay lost the toss and were put into bat.
They needed a big total and got it – rattling up 251-3 declared off 44.5 overs.
Will Evans was the shining light, cracking 130 not out off 97 balls, smashing 10 sixes and seven fours to record his highest score of the season.
Evans shared in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 115 with Adam Campion (35 not out).
Earlier, skipper Johansen had made 37 and opener Zack Gidlow 35.
In reply, New Brighton looked in both at 81-4, but then Sebastian J Botes (76) and Daniel Cooke (77) formed a crucial partnership of 130 for the fifth wicket.
The visitors reached the winning post at 252-6 off 47.5 overs to bag a four-wicket, 20 points to 8 win.
For the Bay, Jack Parry gathered 3-61 and Ryan Holtby 2-73. In the end, the bowlers proved too expensive and the hosts fell to a 10th loss in 22 matches.
New Brighton survive and Orrell Red Triangle are relegated along with Bay.
Although Colwyn Bay proved themselves to be the one-day kings of Wales in landing the Welsh Cup, the season ended on a disappointing note for the Rhos-on-Sea based club, but they will come again.
Although they ended the season with a heavy loss at Formby, Bay seconds can be proud overall of a third-place finish.
Bay won the toss and elected to bat, but were bowled out for just 119, Dan Russell hitting an outstanding 65, while for the Liverpool side, Charles Gallagher claimed a stunning 7-41.
Formby eased to 120-2 in reply to seal a 25-3 points victory.
Put into bat, Hightown set 191-9 off 55 overs, Adam Tidswell taking 4-61, Benjamin Hughes a superb 3-23 from 14 and Sheil Sethi 2-34 for visitors Prestatyn.
The Welsh side, whose overseas star Sampath Perera departed for his homeland Sri Lanka earlier in the week, were bowled out for 117 in reply, skipper Andy Taylor 39 and Lucas Sheridan 25.
Skipper Carwyn Johnson top-scored with 36 as Northop Hall were sent packing for just 94 after being put into bat, Sadeep Saputantrige an outstanding 7-48 for the visitors.
Next-to-bottom Parkfield got home on 97-6 in just 19.2 overs, Liam Evans Ford 4-32 and Johnson 2-53 for the hosts.
Young captain Johnson took a very good 49 league wickets for the Hall, also scoring 353 runs.
Hats off to Prestatyn seconds for ending the season on a high with a narrow home victory over St Helens Town.
Deciding to bat after winning the toss, the hosts were dismissed for just 90, Jaden Ablett highest contributor with 23, Robert Shuttleworth 6-28 for the visitors.
Ashley Jones then scooped 4-14 and Navneet Kaimal 3-24 off 23 overs – 10 maidens – as the away side plummeted to 77 all out.
