LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT COMPETITION – SEP 9 REPORTS

1ST XI ECB PREMIER LEAGUE

Southport & Birkdale (3) 126-10 Colwyn Bay (20) 127-5

Colwyn Bay did their hopes of escaping relegation from the Premier League the world of good with victory at the County Cricket Ground on Saturday.

George Johansen’s Welsh Cup winners could have something else to celebrate next weekend if they beat fellow strugglers New Brighton at home in their final game.

With one round of matches left and two of the bottom three definitely going down, the standings are: New Brighton – played 21 points 166, Orrell Red Triangle 21-165 and Colwyn Bay 21-161.

Bay will leapfrog New Brighton if they defeat them at Penrhyn Avenue and in the hope of finishing safe in third from bottom would then need to rely on Orrell not getting a big victory over visitors Southport and Birkdale.

Saturday’s match at S & B saw Bay win the toss and put the hosts in, bowling them out for a modest 126.

Five Colwyn bowlers took two wickets each: Adam Campion 2-20, Jack Parry 2-23, Ryan Holtby 2-24, Paul Jenkins 2-26 and Jamie Moorhouse 2-31.

In reply, Bay reached a winning 127-5 off 29.2 overs, Will Evans posting 31 not out and Welsh Cup semi and final hero Sion Morris 30.

1ST XI SECOND DIVISION

Prestatyn (1) 63-10 Fleetwood Hesketh (25) 64-2

Prestatyn’s remote hopes of promotion disappeared completely with this disappointing home loss to second-placed Fleetwood.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the North Wales hosts were blown away for just 63, skipper Andy Taylor best with 24, Saad Humayun snaring a stunning 7-28 for the visitors.

Fleetwood eased to 64-2 in 15.2, Sampath Perera picking up 2-32 for the home team.

Sutton St Helens (21) 119-10 Northop Hall (5) 76-10

After bowling out Sutton for 119, Northop Hall must have fancied their chances of victory, but it was not to be.

Inserting the opposition, the Hall’s bowlers performed well, Liam Evans Ford scooping 4-42, Will Edwards 3-18 and Carwyn Johnson 3-47.

Unfortunately, in reply, the visitors could only manage 76 all out, Ben Slater hitting a spirited 37 and Johnson 21, Natalie Brown bagging 7-37 for the home team.

2ND XI PREMIER DIVISION

Colwyn Bay 2nd XI (20) 204-10 Sefton Park 2nd XI (9) 170-10

On a good weekend for Colwyn Bay, their seconds also triumped.

James Jones then collected 4-45, Arthur Jones 2-26 and Tom Clarke 2-38 as the Liverpool visitors were dismissed for 170.

Points: 20-9 to Bay seconds.
