Colwyn Bay reach Women’s Welsh Cup Hundred Ball Plate finals day again

Colwyn Bay Cricket Club’s women are heading south again after winning their Welsh Cup Plate (North) group for a second year running.

Winners of the inaugural Women’s Welsh Cup Hundred Ball Plate last year in Bridgend, beating Panteg in the final, Bay will target a repeat success on 2023 national finals day in August.

The North Wales club booked top spot in their regional group with a win over Llandudno Fire last Sunday.

Bay were asked to bat and struck 103-2 off 16 overs for a net score of 293, Hannah Kennedy leading the way with an excellent 31, Sammy Sherington 16 and Jane Smith 13, Erin Marlor taking both Tudno wickets.

In reply, Fire were limited to 58-6, net score 228, meaning Colwyn Bay triumphed by 65 runs.

Sammy Sherington picked up 2-9 off 18 balls.

Bay headed the group with a maximum nine points from 3 games, with Conwy Celts finishing third in between Llandudno Fire and Llandudno Originals.

Sunday’s tie between Colwyn Bay and Llandudno Fire doubled up as a North Wales Women’s League West game, Bay scooped 17 points and Fire 3.

In the North Wales Women’s East last Thursday, Halkyn defeated Gwersyllt Park.

Halkyn made 105-2 off 16 overs, Jen Broughall hitting 28 (once out – net score 23), Heather Astley and Katie Morris 11 apiece.

Broughall then bagged 2-9 as Park were limited to 64-4 in reply. Net scores: 295-244 – Halkyn win by 51 runs.
