North Wales Cricket Divisions 3 & 4 – Poppy stars for Pesda, Pooler shines for Corwen and Duncan dazzles for Ruthin

DIVISION THREE

Bethesda 2nd XI (11) 159-8 Mynydd Isa & Maeshafn (4) 157-10

Poppy Smith produced career best 2nd XI bowling figures of 4-37 as Bethesda celebrated a thrilling victory at home to Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn.

Wales international Poppy, also a North Wales League title winner with Bethesda women, came up with the best return off her eight overs as Mynydd were bowled out for 157, Dylan Hughes claiming 3-24, Abs Dey top-scorer for the travellers with 51.

Pesda seconds got home on 159-8 off 36.2, skipper Richard Green starring with 49, Umang Desai 2-11 and Yash Soni 2-24 for the away term.

Clwb Criced Caernarfon (3) 190-6 Connah’s Quay 2nd XI (12) 194-7

Victory was achieved by the Quay with a ball to spare.

Put into bat, Caernarfon put together 190-7 off 40 overs, Grant Peisley 53 and Ian Morgan 36, Jack Griffiths 2-11 off eight and Matthew Dix 2-20 for the visitors.

Quay made it to 194-7 off 39.5, number eight bat Chris Boden (50) and number nine Andy Tilley (38 no) proving genuine tail-end heroes.

Kevin Jones posted a crucial 39 no, while for the Cofis, Morgan scooped 3-14 off eight and Llyr Erddyn Davies 2-22.

Conwy 2nd XI (14) 224-5 Ruthin (1) 146-9

Richard Windmill and David Wilkinson both hit 53 apiece, while Toby Watson was 47 not out as Conwy seconds amassed a winning effort of 224-5, Jonny Clayton 2-34.

Ruthin were then limited to 146-9, Matthew Duckworth 58 no, Ben Edwards 4-22 and David Owen 3-14 for the victorious hosts.

Corwen (13) 268-6 Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (2) 202-8

A big total for Corwen set them up for victory – and what a day it was for all-rounder Harry Pooler.

Asked to bat first, the hosts compiled a huge 268-6, Pooler with 95, hitting 13 fours and four sixes, Tom King 55 and Aminul Sany 32 not out.

Graeme Bell scooped 3-48 for the Park.

In reply, Gwersyllt were restricted to 202-8, Shaun Hughes 67, Rhys Griffiths 41 no and skipper Harry Archer 38, Pooler completing a marvellous match with 4-45.

Denbigh 2nd XI (14) 211-7 Llandudno 2nd XI (1) 126-10

Stuart Griffiths’ outstanding innings of 80 did most to ensure a Denbigh seconds victory at Ystrad Road.

The hosts set 211-7 off 40 overs, Jake Hall adding 36 no, while Dan Jones pouched 3-33 for the visitors.

Llandudno were sent packing for 126, Andrew Christian 40 and Jake Sumbland 30, Hall completing a good afternoon with 4-15, Simon Williams 2-15 and batting hero Griffiths 2-24.

Bersham 2nd XI (2) 140-10 Halkyn 2nd XI (13) 124-4

Anthony Green gathered 3-22 and Muhammad Khan 3-30 as Halkyn seconds dismissed Bersham seconds for 140, Shins Varghese 53 for the hosts.

In reply, Halkyn seconds reached their revised target of 124 for the loss of four wickets off 31 overs, Khan 51 and Aaron Thomas 42. Points: 13-2.

Ruthin 2nd XI (14) 151-3 Pwllheli (1) 150-10

Duncan Roberts had a match remember for victorious Ruthin seconds.

Roberts took 4-35 and then scored 85 not out as the Vale of Clwyd team swept aside visitors Pwllheli.

Pwll were all out for 150 after being inserted by the opposition, Craig Edwards 47, while for the hosts, Huw Watson took 3-21 and Austin Manderson 2-32, providing good support for star bowler Roberts.

Ruthin seconds reached 151-3 in 35.2 to seal a 14-1 win, that man Roberts really standing out with his unbeaten effort.
