Wales all-rounder Jason Foulkes leaves St Asaph to join Cheshire club Nantwich

Jason Foulkes in action for Wales

Wales international Jason Foulkes has ended his long association with St Asaph Cricket Club and joined Cheshire side Nantwich for the 2023 season.

Fast bowler Foulkes, 28, spent 15 years with Saints, making his club debut in 2008 and went on to take 426 wickets for the Elwy Park Grove outfit, 381 of them in league matches.

His best season was 2021, where he claimed a career best 53 league wickets in a season for a St Asaph side crowned North Wales League Premier Division champions for the first time.

Also a more than useful batsman, he has amassed 3,582 runs for Asaph, hitting 11 half-centuries and a top-score of 81.

Last year saw Foulkes’ cricketing CV reach new heights.

He debuted for Wales in three formats – appearing for the three-day, T20 and 50-Over sides.

Foulkes enjoyed a winning debut in the three-day NCCA Division 2 Championship as the Welsh overcame Devon by just five runs in a thriller at Abergavenny.

He took 3-18 in his first appearance for the Wales T20 side which beat Buckinghamshire and claimed 1-21 off eight overs in a 50-over NCCA Trophy victory, also against Bucks.

Jason also scooped seven wickets for the newly-introduced Wales NC North team in 2022.

Perhaps unfortunately for St Asaph, Cheshire County League Premier Division side Nantwich got a birds-eye view of the paceman’s abilities when the teams met in the National Club Championship last June.

Foulkes took 6-27 off eight overs as the Dabbers were restricted to 207 and then bowled out Asaph for 143, Jason making a useful 30.

No wonder they were so keen to sign him. All the best Jason and hope to see you back playing in North Wales in the future.
