Intermediate Cup joy for Menai, Nefyn, Kinmel Bay, St Asaph, Llanrug, Pwllheli, Meliden and Mochdre

NWCFA INTERMEDIATE CHALLENGE CUP ROUND TWO REPORTS – OCTOBER 15

CPD Pentraeth 1 Menai Bridge Tigers 5
The last time Menai Bridge had played at Pentraeth they suffered a shock 3-2 league defeat, but Aaron Rowlands’ side made no mistake second time around when they visited Bryniau Field in the Intermediate Cup on Saturday.
Lewis Clayton opened the scoring on 18 minutes with an instinctive first-time strike from the edge of the area.
Some wasteful finishing from the Tigers front line meant the score stayed 1-0 at half-time.
Menai were mindful of avoiding a repeat of the league fixture in August, when Pentraeth overturned a two-goal deficit to win 3-2.
Those fears were raised when Kian Abbott, the winning goalscorer from that match, equalised on 53 minutes with a poked finish from close range.
Tigers reacted instantly, and Clayton grabbed two goals in as many minutes to complete a hat-trick.
Clayton was key again as he provided an assist for Sion Hogan to round the goalkeeper for Tigers’ fourth.
And Clayton made it a complete set of goal involvements when he found Callum Davidson at the back post, who fired into the roof of the net to complete the scoring at 5-1.
Blaenau Amateurs 0 CPD Nefyn United 2
Josh Piper and Tomi Evans provided the goals as Nefyn advanced to the last eight at Cae Clyd.
Piper broke the deadlock on 33 minutes from a Jack Jones assist and Evans made sure of the win with the second after 75.
Mark Jones was man of the match for the Penwaig.
Glantraeth 0 St Asaph City 3
Ryan Potts, Tyler Joyce and Callum Roberts were on target for Saints in Saturday’s victory on Anglesey.
Kinmel Bay 5 Gwalchmai 0
A tremendous result for Kinmel Bay against opponents who have started the season really well in the North Wales Coast West Premier.
Ryan Roberts, Connor Morris (penalty), Anthony Jones, a Chris Bennett own goal and Ethan Evans strike guided the hosts to a great win.
CPD Llannefydd 2 Llanrug United 3
Cracking result for Llanrug at the home of North Wales Coast East Premier title contenders Llannefydd.
Tomi Llywelyn and Shaun Roberts put the Caernarfon-area visitors two-up inside the first 15 minutes.
It remained 2-0 up to half time, but after the break Llannefydd battled back to 2-2, Llion Morris netting on 48 and 63 minutes.
It was anyone’s tie now, but two minutes from time 17-year-old defender Osian Williams plundered the winner for Llanrug.
CPD Llansannan 0 CPD Pwllheli FC 4
Evergreen former Cardiff City pro and ex-Bangor City winger Carl Jones was a hat-trick hero for Pwllheli in Saturday’s tie at Llansannan.
Jones, also a one-time Porthmadog and Nefyn United player, struck on 20, 59 and 89 minutes at Cae Chwarae Maes Gogor, the third goal a penalty.
Rhys Williams added a single for the visitors.
CPD Mynydd Llandegai 4 Meliden 4 (aet – Meliden won 4-3 on pens)
Quite a cup epic at Penrhiw, where eight goals were shared in the game itself before penalties decided the outcome.
Osian Jones put Llandegai ahead in the third minute, Dylan Ford equalised on seven, but Tomos Williams converted from the spot after 12 and it stayed 2-1 Mynydd up to half time.
When Reece Chamberlain was red-carded for Meliden on 66 minutes, it looked grim for them, but Joe Roberts levelled in the 91st minute to force extra time.
In the added half-hour, former manager Huw Davies put Llandegai 3-2 up, but Matty Griffiths made it all-square in the 105th minute.
Ford looked to have won it for the travellers when he scored in the 117th minute, but Osian Jones’ last gasp equaliser necessitated pens.
And at 4-3 Meliden in the shoot-out, David Hayes missed for the hosts, ensuring the Prestatyn-area side advanced to the delight of their vociferous travelling support.
Penmaenmawr Phoenix 1 Mochdre Sports 3
A fantastic team performance against a strong Penmaenmawr side sent Mochdre into the last eight.
Pen started the better and took the lead after four minutes with a Dean Wright strike that smashed against the bar on its way in from the edge of the box.
Sports responded well to this setback with Bobby Tudor finishing neatly after a well-worked move in the seventh minute.
Attacking with the wind, Mochdre started the second half on top and took the lead in the 54th minute with Anuar Seilkhanov finishing well after a Jordan Phillips through ball.
The result was secured in the 94th minute when captain Kai Davies stole the ball on the edge of the Penmaenmawr area and lashed into the roof of the net.
