Colwyn Bay’s cricketers thrash Northop Hall to keep well on course for promotion

The magnificent Will Evans cracked 148 not out for Colwyn Bay

LIVERPOOL AND DISTRICT CRICKET COMPETITION – 1ST XI FIRST DIVISION

LATEST TABLE UP TO AND INCLUDING AUGUST 27, 2022

Colwyn Bay (25) 270-3 dec Northop Hall (3) 143-10

Will Evans hit a stunning season’s best 148 not out as Colwyn Bay stayed bang on course for promotion with a victory which left North Wales rivals Northop Hall deep in First Division relegation territory.

Saturday’s result at Penrhyn Avenue was sweet revenge for the Bay, who had lost by 14 runs in the reverse fixture at Smithy Lane back in June.

Bay won the toss, batted, and dipped to 28-2 before the match-winning stand of 214 between Evans and Zack Gidlow ignited the occasion.

Gidlow was eventually out for 84, but Evans remained until the end, striking 17 fours and nine sixes in his 120-ball effort, which closed with him just two runs short of a 150.

Colwyn declared on 270-3 off 47 overs, Carwyn Johnson 2-81 for the visitors.

The Hall were never at the races in reply, crashing to 143 all out, Jamie Hodgson (24) and Johnson (22) the highest contributors.

Patrick Glover snapped up 3-19 and Jack Parry 3-37 for the hosts, Ryan Holtby claiming 2-22.

Next Saturday (September 3), Bay travel to leaders Lytham for what could end up a title decider.

The top three currently stand (three each to play): Lytham 19-333, Colwyn Bay 19-321, Rainford 19-312.

Bay are home to Highfield on September 10 and finish the second away to Ainsdale on September 17.
