North Wales Women’s Cricket League – Bethesda back on top after suffering first-ever loss

Lovely view shot as Colwyn Bay and Bethesda do battle on Tuesday night

It has been an exciting week in the North Wales Women’s Cricket League.
Champions Bethesda lost for the first time ever, but bounced back the evening after to claim top spot in the table.

TUESDAY, JULY 12

Colwyn Bay (6) 97-4 (net score 277) Bethesda (20) 114-4 (net score 294)
Result: Bethesda (20 pts) beat Colwyn Bay (6) by 17 runs

Poppy Smith starred with a great score of 29 as Bethesda gained revenge on Tuesday for their loss at home to Colwyn Bay the night before.

Put into bat. Pesda chalked up 114-4 off their 16 overs, skipper Hannah Jones adding 17, Emma Jones 10 and Ellie Creek 10 (for once out = 5).

Jane Smith grabbed 2-7 for the Bay and Hannah Kennedy claimed one wicket.

Colwyn gave it a good go in response, making 97-4, Hannah Kennedy an excellent 23, Jane Smith 18 (once out = 13), Amy Kennedy 14 and Kerry Roberts 13.

Ellie Creek and Rhiannon Roberts took a wicket apiece for Pesda, who won by 17 runs.

MONDAY, JULY 11

Bethesda (7) 94-11 (net score 239) Colwyn Bay (20) 80-6 (net score 250)
Result: Colwyn Bay (20 pts) beat Bethesda (7) by 11 runs

Some tremendous bowling from both sides at Parc Villa, but it was the Bay who emerged triumphant to inflict a first-ever league defeat on Bethesda.

Invited to bat, Colwyn posted 80-6 off their 16 overs, Poppy Smith claiming a stunning 5-4 for the hosts, Hannah Jones notching a single wicket.

For the Bay, Jane Smith made a crucial 19.

Bethesda scored more runs than their opponents in reply, but also lost an extra five wickets, finishing on 94-11.

Samantha Sherrington took 4-19, Hannah Kennedy 3-19, Amy Kennedy 2-10 and Jane Smith 1-14 for the visitors.

Emma Jones (8), Poppy Smith (12 for once out = 7), Millie Forte (11 for once out = 6) and Hannah Jones (10 for once out = 5) were Bethesda’s chief contributors.

Bay won by 11 runs to claim an historic victory.

SUNDAY, JULY 10

Carmel and District (6) 79-7 (net score 244) Bethesda (20) 112-6 (net score 282)
Result: Bethesda (20 pts) beat Carmel (6) by 38 runs

Captain Hannah Jones led the way with 24 runs off 13 balls as Bethesda celebrated victory at Colwyn Bay CC.

Inserted by the opposition, the Ogwen Valley side set 112-6, Millie Forte adding 19 (once out = 14), Emma Jones 10 and Ellie Creek 10 (for once out = 5).

Carol Owen took 2-19 for Carmel, who were then limited to 79-7 off their 16 overs, Their top scorer made 13 but was not credited by the club on the league website.

Emma Jones picked up 2-4 for Pesda, Rhiannon Roberts, Megan Hughes, Holly Jones and Hannah Jones scooping a wicket apiece.

Llandudno (20) 124-1 (net score 319) Northop Hall (6) 136-4 (net score 316)
Result: Llandudno (20 pts) beat Northop Hall (6) by 3 runs

A thriller at The Oval went the way of the home side by just three runs.

Asked to bat first, Llandudno struck 124-1 off 16 overs, captain Laura Lambe 21 (once out = 16), Clare Freeman 13, Charlotte MacKinley, Jane Whittaker and Sophie Deering all scoring 10.

Hollie Sigsworth was Hall’s sole wicket-taker.

The visitors hit back with 136-4, but their net score was three runs behind the hosts.

Sara Williams struck 20, Stephanie Noonan 17, Hester Evans-Ford 13 (once out = 8) and Hollie Sigsworth 12.

Jane Whittaker, Clare Freeman and Erin Deering took one wicket each for the home team.

Result: Bethesda (20 pts) beat Northop (6) by 36 runs

Ellie Creek led the charge with 22 runs as Bethesda set a winning net score of 281 after being put in by their Flintshire opponents at Colwyn Bay CC.

Pesda set 106-5 off 16 overs, Hannah Jones adding 20 (once out = 15), Megan Hughes 10 and Millie Forte 10.

Lily Denby, Kaye Jones, Ann Roberts and Bella Williams all collected a wicket for Northop, who were then restricted to 70-5 in their innings.

Lynsey McLoughlin posted 10 and Jane Williams 11 (once out = 6), Emma Jones and Hannah Jones both 2-10 for Pesda, Rhiannon Roberts 1-15.
