An excellent eight-wicket victory for Chirk at Shrewsbury lifted the North Wales side up to fourth in Division One.

After beginning the season with back-to-back defeats, the Holyhead Road outfit have now won three on the bounce.

Saturday’s test at London Road saw Shrews put into bat and limited to a modest 137-8, Luke Gardner taking 2-21, Mark Shaw 2-41 and Andrew Swarbrick a miserly 1-12 off 9 overs.

In reply, Wynn Jones and Liam Walker got the visiting innings off to a great start by putting on 58 for the first wicket.

Walker went for 18, but Jonathan Phillips (22 not out) went on to add 61 with Jones for the second wicket.

Wynn Jones eventually departed for 64, but Phillips and Nick Flack (16 no) were there at the end as Chirk reached 140-2 off 22.2 overs to wrap up a 20-2 points triumph.

Dale Randall scored a career best 107 for Chirk seconds – but it was not quite enough to bring his side victory over visitors Montgomery seconds.

Chirk were put into bat and Randall recorded a third ton for the club, his maiden coming for the first team at Gresford back in 2006,

His previous highest knocks of 103 and 102 were eclipsed by Saturday’s effort against Montgomery.

Stephen Conner picked up 4-34 for the hosts, Randall completed an excellent game with 2-12 off eight and Martin Wright scooped 2-24.
