Big win for NFA as Bangor 1876 lose at home for first time

Sunday saw the women’s team take on a very good and competitive NFA side.

However, it was a miserable day all round for the 1876 girls in awful wet and windy conditions with a 6-2 loss.

Reflecting on the defeat and performance, 1876 coach Aron Griffith had this to say: “First of all I’d like to thank NFA for travelling down to Plas Ffrancon in this horrible weather.

“Yes, the result didn’t go the way we wanted today but we gave everything we could on the day. We had our moments in the game, created some chances and our goals came from good movement and interplay and unfortunately we had a seemingly good goal disallowed just before half time so we’ll focus on those positives from the game.

“When we did start passing the ball quickly we did break them down but we didn’t do enough of it. We needed to be more patient and more composed.

“However, every time we got back into the game we made some uncharacteristic errors or poor decisions so in part we made it easy for them, gifted them with opportunities which NFA took full advantage of. I think their last goal epitomised our whole afternoon in that a cross shot got caught in the wind and seemed to loop in.

“Having said that, full respect to NFA who were the better team on the day and fully deserving of the 3 points so we can’t complain and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

“This is a wake up call for us and we know there are still a lot of things to improve and work on from our side. So we dust ourselves down, try to bounce back quickly and put this behind us starting next week away to Welshpool. I’m sure we’ll see a reaction from the team.”

NFA had lost 6-2 at home to 1876 on the first day of the season but on Sunday the scores were reversed at Plas Ffrancon, Bethesda.

The weather was awful from the start with heavy rain and a really strong gusting wind.

NFA played with the wind and just couldn’t get the final pass right until the 17th minute when Emily Jones latched onto a through ball on the right and placed a shot into the far corner.

Stella Windsor soon added a second but the visitors couldn’t add to the score so 2-0 to NFA at half time.

We came out in the second half and asked the ladies to keep the ball on the floor and play to feet.

They took this on board and almost immediately added to the score. Emily Jones ran through and made it 3-0 with a composed finish.

Bangor came straight back at us and made it 3-1 through Jordan Roberts.

We quickly responded though and Emily Jones completed her hat-trick. Sade Benjamin then ran onto a through ball, took it around the keeper and from an acute angle fired into the net for 5-1.

Bangor came back with a second through George Bain, but NFA weren’t done with the scoring.

In added time Georgia Spibey broke down the left and cut back and hit a looping shot that went over the keeper to finish the scoring.
