New Denbigh Town Ladies manager Ellen Lawson has enjoyed a productive first four weeks in charge.
The former player, who was a member of Denbigh’s 2014-15 North Wales League title-winning squad, took over as boss on July 18.
She reports that training sessions have been very well attended, with a fitness coach and new blood in the management team really helping things along.
Coach Liam Nash has had a really positive impact on the camp since taking his first steps in women’s football involvement.
Ellen said: “Things have really picked up again. “We have 24+ showing up for training now; we have a guy called Mike from Dynamic Fitness coming every Tuesday to help with fitness. Seven of the players are girls that I’ve coached from under-12’s to present day.”
Some players have left the club, notably prolific goalscorer Rosie Hughes, who has joined Wrexham AFC Women.
However, Prestatyn-based triplets Charlotte, Emily and Lucy Morris, a big part of successful Denbigh teams from the past, have returned.
Ellen says a friendly has already been played against Frodsham, while former manager John Clayton, now in charge of veterans men’s side Denbigh Wanderers, has been helping to arrange other fixtures.
“John has been a massive support helping arrange friendlies and on hand with advice. Three of our senior players have been off having babies also so we are hoping to get them all back soon too.
“We’ve lost a few players and it’s pretty much like starting from scratch again, but everyone’s working really hard in training.”
