Ellen Lawson has taken over as the new manager of Denbigh Town Ladies.

She replaces Jordan Baker, who has stepped down from the role, but will remain with the club as head of youth (girls).

Ellen has played for Denbigh since the beginning of the team some 12 years ago.

She was part of the squads which won the North Wales Women’s League title in 2014-15 and reached the Welsh Cup semi-finals the following season. She came on as a sub in the semi against Llandudno at Belle Vue, Rhyl.

Denbigh Town said in a statement: “Ellen has an infectious enthusiasm and we are glad she has come to this decision. As well as being an experienced and well known senior player Ellen has completed the Football Leaders award, First Aid and is shortly to complete her C licence. Ellen has coached girls for some time now and hopes, in the not too distant future, to continue her football journey and enrol on a B licence course.”

When asked for her thoughts on the appointment, Ellen replied: “Of course we are sorry that Jordie has stepped down but glad he is staying with the club and continue to do a good job of bringing the youth players on.”

And what about taking over as manager ?

“I know it is a big job but I have been part of the Denbigh Ladies set up since the outset and am excited and looking forward to the challenge. I know I won’t be doing it alone and have the support of Carla and Elen and the rest of the Denbigh Town ladies, as well as the committee and others in the background. “

Jordie’s decision is due to personal reasons. He has work commitments and wants more precious time with 11 month old Theo.

He said: “I wish Ellen well. I will stay with Denbigh Town as head of youth (girls) as I strongly believe that, to have sustainability, we will need local girls to come through and play for the senior team. We have an ever increasing number of girls training here which is what I want.”
