PRESTATYN (25) 77-4 MAGHULL (2) 76-10

Sampath Perera grabbed NINE wickets for the third time as a Prestatyn player as his team romped to victory at Beach Close.

The Sri Lankan paceman took 9-10 at home to Alder and 9-52 at Spring View in 2014. Now seven years on he has weaved his magic again with 9-33 against Maghull.

The 38-year-old was only denied a full house when team-mate Sheil Sethi took the 10th and final wicket to fall.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Merseysiders were bowled out for 76 in 25.3 overs, Perera occupying the one end throughout the innings, taking 9-33 from 13, Sethi 1-0.

Prestatyn replied with 77-4 off 18.2 to secure a maximum 25 points.

Opener Rohit Kaimal hit 38, while Gareth Leonard (19 no) and David Harris (10 no) saw their team past the winning post.

The hosts slipped from 35-1 to 47-4 before Leonard and Harris took control.

1st XI FIRST DIVISION

COLWYN BAY (20) 87-2 OLD XAVERIANS (1) 84-10

Paul Jenkins

Spin king Paul Jenkins reached 1,000 Liverpool Competition wickets in another majestic performance for Colwyn Bay on Saturday.

Needing two victims to hit the magic grand, Jenkins collected 4-18 off 13 overs as visitors Old Xaverians were dismissed for 84 off 40.4 overs at Penrhyn Avenue.

The left arm spinner now has 848 league wickets for the Bay and bagged 154 in his days at Northop Hall, putting him on 1,002 in the LDCC.

Although Jenkins took star billing for his landmark achievement, James Jones produced even better figures of 5-28 for the home side.

Bay, who had won the toss and put the opposition in, eased to 87-2 in 23 overs, Zack Gidlow 41 not out and Sion Morris 30, that pair putting on 59 for the second wicket.
