North East Wales League: Borras stun Chirk Town, Caerwys Vets keep winning

Borras Park Albion were on a real high after becoming only the second team to defeat Chirk Town in the North East Wales League this season with a 2-1 victory.

Jac Brimfield and Dan McGinnis struck in the first half for Borras, Jordan Dooley’s 70th minute reply not enough to save the Taverners’ hides.

Mold Town United won 7-1 at Bellevue in a battle of the bottom two.

Ryan Kennedy, Stuart Hayes (3), Terry Nicholas (2, 1 pen) and Aaron North provided the away goals, Joao Da Silva for BV.

Acton v Caerwys was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

In the Horace Wynne Cup first round, Sychdyn overcame the challenge of league leaders Brymbo Victoria by a 3-2 scoreline.

Dave Lyth, Jamie Rogers and Sean Wilkes provided first-half goals for the winners, a George Thomas own goal and injury time Finley Dyer net-finder not enough to keep Vics in the competition.

Penyffordd Lions were awarded their tie at Flint Town Under-19s, who could not raise a side.

Vets Match Report – Caerwys Vets 3 Ruthin Vets 2 (words by Richard Newsome)

The last time these two teams met it ended in a 5-4 victory to Caerwys.

Looking for all three points again, Caerwys were on the scoresheet first, Antony Wearden firing home after 26 minutes which was much deserved as the home side had clearly been the dominant in possession.

Ten minutes later Terry Jones made it 2-0 with a strike from the edge of the box. Just before the break Ruthin replied with a close range header from Ian Evans via a Daniel Porter free-kick.

Ruthin started the second half strongly and looked the more likely to score first, however, a long ball up field from Caerwys keeper Ryan Simpson relieved the pressure and allowed the home team to counter attack. A cross from Terry Jones found Chris Geary in the box who made it 3-1.

Caerwys allowed Ruthin back into the game after a defensive error from Ralph Gallagher left Porter one-on-one with the keeper, gifting the visitors a second goal.

After a tense final 15 minutes, Caerwys managed to see out the game, continuing their unbeaten run in the league so far. They currently sit top of the table nine points clear of second place Shotton.
