Pride of North Wales rugby Clwb Rygbi Caergybi/Holyhead RFC greeted a very special guest at their game against Llangefni 2nds this weekend.

Wales international great George North, who grew up on Anglesey, watched Caergybi sweep aside Cefni 56-10 at Bryn-y-Mor to maintain their hold on second spot in WRU Division Three North.

North, 27, whose family lives in Four Mile Bridge near Valley, was educated at Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern and represented Llangefni as a junior, as well as Pwllheli and Rhyl.

Capped 91 times for his country, North is third on the all-time list of Wales try-scorers with 39. He is just one behind Gareth Thomas, with Shane Williams topping the chart on 58.

Holyhead, who are the talk of North Wales rugby and beyond at present having reached the semi-finals of the inaugural WRU Shield, where they take on South Gower at a neutral venue on March 28, were in sparkling form against Llangefni.

They ran in 10 tries; Gethin Rowlands with a hat-trick and Rhodri Parry a double, while Tim Plevey, Aron Parry, Mei Parry, Ben Lewis and Owain Thomas all crossed once.

Rhodri Parry added three conversions, while man of the match was Aron Parry.

A solid platform from the pack and some fantastic line breaks from the back line contributed to a well deserved bonus point win.

The Holyhead coaching team will no doubt be delighted with seeing the hard work in training coming to fruition on the pitch, and pleased to get a bonus victory on the board as the side returned to league action.

Caergybi are 22 points behind leaders Ruthin 2nds, the only team to beat them in the league this season, but do have four games in hand on their rivals from the Vale of Clwyd.
