Gwynedd League: Glantraeth, Talysarn and Bontnewydd in winning form, cup success for 1876 and Nefyn

Glantraeth maintained their steady climb away from the Gwynedd League relegation zone under new manager Sean Brett with a 4-1 victory at Bro Goronwy.

Bro were in with a shout in the first period, only behind to a Paris Hargrave 17th minute front-post finish, but fell well short after the interval.

Early on Ryan Jones tested Glantraeth keeper Mark Hawkins, who used his full body length to parry away before at the opposite end Dean Corbett had to be quick off his line to deny Sion Childes.

Corbett then tipped over Brad Bland’s free kick, but could not do anything about Hargrave’s opener.

Goronwy’s Jordan Edney flashed a shot across goal before Glan’s Bland should have done better but Corbett smothered after a Gethin Hughes mistake let him in with Marl Briggs unlucky not to plant his header on target.

Bro rallied, Edney’s shot blocked before Jac Thomas did everything right with his left-sided volley but Hawkins put his full frame to good use yet again.

Glantraeth applied most of the pressure after the restart but Bro still went close, Edney’s cross only a touch away from a Jac Thomas’ finish before Hargrave nodded home on 68 minutes to put the visitors in control.

A quick throw caught out the hosts on 79 minutes, new signing from Caergybi, the prolific James Ryan, left with the simplest of close range finishes.

Bland finally got his reward in the final minutes, sweetly striking a 30-yard peach over Corbett into the net before Jac Thomas grabbed a consolation reply on 88.

Bontnewydd edged a 2-1 win over visitors Ogwen Tigers, Morgan Roberts and Aled Steele netting for the hosts with Kieron Bullock responding.

Talysarn Celts saw off Llannerchymedd 5-1, Peter Bridges, Gavin Davies (pen), Glyn Tomos (2) and Rhodri Jones providing the home tally, Ashley Rowlands on target for the bottom side.

Dylan Sion Jones struck twice to see Nefyn United past Trearddur Bay Bulls 2-1, Craig Moore ensuring the Anglesey visitors went close.

Waunfawr v Llangoed was postponed due to an unfit pitch.

Bangor 1876 took the honours 5-1 at Menai Bridge Tigers.

Cian Williams, Dylan Summers-Jones, Les Davies (2) and Jamie Petrie supplied the 1876 goals, Dale Owens for the hosts.
