Welsh National League: Rhostyllen in seven heaven and back on top, Albion lose after 12 unbeaten, Cooke hits all four for Wellmen

Rhostyllen returned to the Welsh National League Premier Division pinnacle with a 7-0 away caning of Plas Madoc.

Tom Douglas (3), Kev Roberts, Sam Chester, Steven Jones and Lewis Clamp shared the goals for the table-toppers.

Danny Warren’s hat-trick guided Mold Alexandra to a superb 3-2 win against overnight leaders Cefn Albion, who were beaten for the first time in 13 matches.

Jordan Jones and Torne Samuels hit back for Albion.

Jake Cooke was a four-goal hero in Holywell Town’s 4-0 triumph at Llay Welfare.

Third-place Town are now just three points off Rhostyllen with three games in hand, as well as being undefeated in 13 matches.

Johnny Haseldin’s men took the lead in the 13th minute. Tony Roebuck’s first-time shot was going wide of the target but Cooke intercepted it and steered the ball home.

On the half-hour, Llay had their first real chance when Matthew Worrall’s effort saw Mike Platt push the ball over the crossbar for a corner which came to nothing.

Town grabbed the all-important second goal with 40 minutes played. Dylan Allshorn broke down the left and his low cross into the box was finished off by Cooke at the far post.

In the 52nd minute Cooke celebrated his hat-trick. He burst forward and slid the ball past the onrushing keeper, much to the delight of the Wellmen supporters.

The game was made safe in the 56th minute when Cooke fired home from a tight angle.

FC Queen’s Park overcame a rocky start to beat visitors Saltney Town 3-0.

Early pressure from the Bordermen forced Tom Belton into a great save followed by a goal-line clearance.

With a slight adjustment to the Park’s tactics they then got on top. Sean Dodd and Nicky Chesters have formed a formidable partnership in the centre and both started to dictate play.

Midway through the half the stalemate was broken as Edgar Lima released Barry Torrence to beat the offside trap. Torrence was initially denied by a great save, but was able to convert the rebound.

As the half drew to a close the Park received a free kick out wide and up stepped Torrence to drill a delightful cross into the box for Luke Hughes to power a header home.

Immediately after the restart Torrence diverted an attempted goalkeeper clearance into the net to seal the points.

Sam Evans, Oli Crimp and Jack Evans guided Llanuwchllyn to a 3-1 home success over Castell Alun Colts, Liam Mackin’s goal earned Penycae a 1-0 verdict against hard-working Rhydymwyn and Chirk AAA were 5-2 winners at Brickfield Rangers.
