Cymru North: Henry grabs late leveller for Corwen, first win for Llanfair, Guilsfield in dramatic turnaround

Returning hero Sam Henry rescued a point for Corwen with an 85th minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Buckley Town.

Last season’s top marksman for Corwen, Henry rejoined the club in the week from Blacon Youth, and marked his comeback in typical style with an important goal in this Cymru North relegation zone battle.

The hosts had most of the early play and only three fine saves from Bucks keeper Joe Makaruk ensured the scoresheet stayed blank.

The game changed when Corwen’s debutant keeper Keighan Jones made a mess of a clearance, allowing Sam Spridgeon to score for the visitors in the 16th minute.

Buckley could have added a second before the break when Aron Williams went on a wonderful run past a succession of defenders, but his final shot flashed past the upright.

After the changeover Corwen took the game to the visitors. The home side had a penalty shout when Dale Davies went down

in the area, but despite the Corwen players being adamant he was fouled the referee waved away their claims.

Disaster struck for Buckley when the referee realised he had cautioned Callum Humphries twice and sent him off.

As the game entered the final five minutes a great ball was played forward to Henry, who found the top corner of the net with a brilliant finish from the 18-yard line.

However, Town almost snatched it in the dying stages.

In the second minute of stoppage time, Jake Roberts smashed a free kick against the far post.

Then from a 96th minute corner Bucks’ Lewis Hone headed goalwards, but Keighan Jones pulled off a brilliant fingertip save to ensure the spoils were shared.

Third-place Guilsfield recovered from 2-0 down to score three goals in a 12-minute spell to grab a 3-2 home win over Llandudno.

Danny Hughes and Dean Seager struck to hand the Seasiders a two-goal half time lead.

The score remained the same until the 72nd minute when Steve Blenkinsop pulled one back for Guils.

Chris Cathrall levelled two minutes later, then Adam Jenkins bagged the winner on 84.

Llanfair United celebrated their very first win of the season as they took the honours 3-1 at Llangefni Town.

Gethin Stephens and a Gethin Jones double put the Powys men three-up before Matthew Jones nabbed a consolation for the disappointing hosts.

Penrhyncoch versus Bangor City ended 0-0.
