Under the Belle Vue floodlights, Bangor proved far too good for their coastal rivals on this Friday evening.

When Rhyl attacked, City’s big centre-backs Huw Griffiths and Sean Hazelden were in control, with the added security of Graham Brett sweeping.

The only goal of the first half came on 25 minutes when Lee Williams failed to hold a firmly hit shot from Griffiths and the ever alert Marc Lloyd Williams popped up to score from close range in front of the voiciferous City fans.

The Llanberis striker went close on a couple of other occasions, once attempting to chip City’s former manager – but no effect.

Soon after the interval Lloyd Williams combined well with the rampaging Kenny Burgess who was felled by Jamie Brewerton.

The penalty was calmly placed beyond the desparing Williams to give Lloyd Williams his fourth goal of the season.

The scorer nearly completed his hat-trick with a left footed curler which Williams saved, a feat repeated by City’s Phil Priestley from a firmly struck Steve Futcher drive.

Paul Roberts forced a good block from the Rhyl keeper again when he picked up an excellent crossfield ball from the peerless Clayton Blackmore.

The midway period of the second half drifted almost quietly by as the home side failed to seriously challenge, although they did force a couple of corners and attacking free-kicks. The referee took centre stage with some needless bookings.

With Aled Rowlands replacing Paul Sellars in midfield City gained fresh impetus, so it was no real surprise when Lloyd Williams set up debutant fullback Alan Goodall for a third from close range – although Lee Williams should really have done better.

Overall a satisfying outcome, a clean sheet and a competent performance from the Citizens.
