Young Player of the Year Catrin Evans joins a new club

The Grassroots North Wales Young Women’s Player of 2018-19 received her trophy in the week she joined a new club.

Catrin Evans, 16, scored a stunning 18 goals in 12 appearances for North Wales Women’s League Division One joint champions Bethel last season, but this week committed herself to Amlwch Town for 2019-20.

Fellow Ynys Môn players Ffion Owen and Ceri Slaney, who were also part of the squad which reached the final of the Inter-Island Games, also signed for Amlwch this week.

It is an exciting move for Catrin, who only became eligible to play women’s football on December 31 last year when she turned 16.

So far 2019 has been quite a year for the youngster.

As well as her net-busting successes for Bethel, Catrin also scored Ynys Môn’s goal in their 2-1 loss to Isle of Man in the women’s final at the Inter-Island Games.

She repaid the faith the management team showed in her by producing a series of fine displays in the tournament, where Anglesey massively over-achieved compared to previous competitions.

Catrin is keen to view any video footage which may be out there of the goal she scored in the Inter-Island Games final at Holyhead on June 21.
