Catrin Evans did not begin her senior football career until the turn of 2019 – but she still wins the Grassroots North Wales Women’s Young Player of the Year award in a canter.
On December 31, Anglesey-based Catrin turned 16, making her eligible to play in the women’s league.
She has never looked back, netting 18 goals in 12 matches in all competitions for a Bethel side where she has emerged through the club’s highly successful junior ranks.
Catrin bagged a hat-trick on her Division One debut at Kinmel Bay and has failed to score in just two of her 12 appearances for Bethel, those games being the two cup finals her team lost narrowly to chief rivals Llanfair United.
However, Catrin did have the satisfaction of scoring the decider in Bethel’s 1-0 league win over Llanfair in March, a lovely individual goal with a lethal left-foot finish.
That pace and enterprise up front also earned Catrin selection for the provisional Ynys Môn squad set to compete in the International Island Games football tournament being hosted on Anglesey this month. On June 4, she was confirmed as having made the full squad.
Bethel Ladies possess a wealth of young talent and Catrin is one of the very best. The future can only be bright for this 16-year-old wonder girl.
