Katie Midwinter rose to a massive challenge in 2018-19 – now she faces another major test

She finished up scoring more goals in North Wales senior women’s football than any other player last season.

She also took the gamble of leaving a football club where she was an established star, helped form a brand new team and finished up a league champion.

The 2018/19 season was one Katie Midwinter will never forget.

And there is no more deserving person of the title Grassroots North Wales Women’s Player of the Season.

The skillful attacking midfielder, who specialises in long-range goals, deadly free-kicks and defence-splitting passes, had been a Bethel player for more than 10 years before deciding to help set up the first-ever ladies team in Bethesda last season.

The move was a resounding success with Pesda winning their first 10 matches in North Wales Women’s League Division Two to clinch the title at the first attempt.

Katie finished top scorer in Division Two with 22 goals and second overall in North Wales on 27 (3 more in cups for Bethesda and two in the league for Bethel in September).

Only Gemma Jones of Llanfair United finished ahead of her on 32 goals, but Midwinter still ends up the leading markswoman for 2018-19 among North Wales based players.

Now comes another big test – trying to get Bethesda to reach the heights of last season in 2019-20.

Athletic are due to be promoted to Division One, where they will find the standard higher – and they have already lost a couple of last season’s squad.

But Katie Midwinter loves a challenge……
