Prestatyn’s Perera passes 50 league wickets, Colwyn Bay seconds on verge of Division One title

Sri Lankan all-rounder Sampath Perera passed 50 league wickets for the season as well as scoring a decisive 91 in Prestatyn’s crushing victory at Pembertons Meadow.

Put into bat, the North Wales side were 26-3 before Rhys Jones (33) and Perera put on 115 for the fourth wicket.

Perera was next out nine short of a ton – his highest score for the club – as the visitors were all back in the hutch for 165, Shahrukh Khan 5-19 for the hosts.

Adam Tidswell then took 3-11, Perera 3-16, to edge up to 52 league victims in 2021, Danny Pryde 2-6 and Benjamin Hughes 2-14 as Parkfield were skittled out for 56.

The 23-5 points return should secure Prestatyn a top six place.

2ND XI FIRST DIVISION

Already promoted Colwyn Bay seconds will clinch the Division One title if they pick up 20 points or more in their final game at Spring View seconds this Saturday.

Bay put themselves in this position courtesy of a remarkably easy 10-wicket win at Rainford seconds last weekend.

The home side won the toss and their decision to bat backfired horrendously as they were blasted out for a paltry 21 from 16.1 overs.

James Jones took 6-4 off 8.1 overs, while Tom Clarke claimed 4-12 from eight.

Jones has now passed the 500 wickets mark for the club.

In reply, Bay needed just 4.3 overs to reach 22-0 to seal a 25-0 points split,

Northop Hall 2nd XI (6) 117-6 Leigh 2nd XI (8) 211-8 dec – DRAWN

Visitors Leigh elected to bat and scored 211-8 declared off 44 overs, Adam Littler 3-33 and Liam Evans-Ford 2-48 for the hosts.

Hall’s response ended on 117-6, Evans-Ford 32 not out. Match drawn.
