Brymbo won by 161 runs

South African all-rounder Jason Underwood struck a second-best career score of 171 not out in Brymbo’s huge Welsh Cup victory over Connah’s Quay on Sunday.

It had been almost eight years to the day that Underwood blasted his highest-ever knock of 199 for Pwllheli against….Connah’s Quay.

That was in a North Wales League Premier Division clash; his latest wonder innings for Brymbo came in a Welsh Cup North Zone tie.

Home captain Underwood won the toss and decided to bat, the Steelmen powering their way to 330-6 off 40 overs.

Ryan Collier was the next top-score with 59 with the hosts wobbling slightly on 141-5 before the ruthless Underwood put on 136 for the sixth wicket with Jack Williams.

The Sprongbok’s phenomenal effort came off just 83 balls and included 14 sixes and 13 fours, with a strike rate of 206.02.

The Quay attack came in for some serious hammer. Mali Auty’s eight overs cost him 60 runs, but he did have the consolation of taking four wickets.

In reply, the visitors were dismissed for 169, Anro Burger 38 and Auty 34, Ahamadzia Wali 3-20, Sam Aplin 2-18 and Tomos Rhys 2-24 for the resounding winners.
